Human Rights and Climate Change Consultation Workshops.

25th - 28th June 2024- Penninsula Hotel,Suva.

Thank you to Diplomacy Training Program (DTP ALUMNI Program) with Macquarie University- Faculty of Law UN OHCHR, CCF and PIANGO.

About 20 participants were selected from across the Pacific for this important consultation and we were part of this successful and important forum.

SAVING NAVITILEVU BAY FROM BLACK SAND MINING.

We thank the Indigenous People and Leaders of the Naviti Levu bay, Ra, Fiji,and especially to the Tui Naviti Levu for their Solidarity , Unity ,Courage and Wisdom to SAYING NO TO MINING of their Precious Paradise for BLACK SAND and other Minerals.

This is the first Vanua in Fiji to put a firm Decision not to allow for the destruction of their Lands and Seas from lure of Chinese Mining company for the Extraction of their BLACK SAND after listening to our advice against Extraction.

BA and SIGATOKA is still struggling to keep their Priority for the Protection of Life and We are keeping on to help them in this regard.

It is such a sweet and wonderful feeling to know that we have been part of a this wonderful project in trying to fight off this evil and have such a Positive effect here at NAVITILEVU for their generation to come.

PRICELESS....

WHAT WE DISCUSSED IN GENEVA IN THE BUSINESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS FORUM.

RESPECT, PROTECT AND REMEDY.

1. THE COMPANIES ARE OBLIGED TO "RESPECT" THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WHEN DOING BUSINESS ON THEIR LANDS AND ENVIRONMENT.

2. THE STATE IS MANDATED TO "PROTECT" THE RIGHTS OF ALL PEOPLE WHEN BUSINESSES ARE CARRIED OUT ON THEIR LAND AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.

3. THERE SHOULD BE AVENUES AND MECHANISM FOR "REMEDIES" FOR DAMAGES DONE TO PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENT BY BUSINESSES THAT HAVE CARRIED OUT THEIR OPERATIONS IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA.

THESE MECHANISM ARE ALREADY IN PLACE WITHIN THE UN SYSTEM AND GOVERNMENTS KNOW ALL THESE BUT WE AT THE NGOS, CSOS, COMMUNITIES, INDIVIDUALS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENDERS ARE BEST SUITED TO ACTIVE THESE UN GUIDING PRINCIPLES WHEN OUR DIGNITY AND RIGHTS ARE DISRESPECTED.
