The Marshall Islands Students Association (MISA) is honored to have co-hosted, in partnership with the Republic of the Marshall Islands Embassy, Suva, Fiji, the 9th Annual March at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Laucala Campus.

This year’s theme, “Anin Jitbon Mar” (Spiritual Call of Our Islands), highlighted our identity, heritage, and deep connection to our island homes.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our distinguished speakers and leaders—H.E. Ambassador Junior Aini, Commissioner Ariana Tibon-Kilma(Chairperson, RMI National Nuclear Commission), Secretary General Baron Waqa (Pacific Islands Forum), and Rev. Sepiuta Hala’api’api (Deputy Moderator, Pacific Conference of Churches)—as well as Mr. Miracle Lang for his role as Master of Ceremonies and MISA for their moving cultural performance.
Since its establishment in 2017, this march has grown in strength and impact, and we gratefully acknowledge all sponsors, facilitators, and supporters, including the RMI National Nuclear Commission, Peace Movement Aotearoa, Pacific Conference of Churches , Pacific Network on Globalization, USP Student Association, and all allies advancing nuclear and climate justice across the Pacific. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our fellow student associations—our Wantoks—who, despite their busy preparations for MST, came out to stand in solidarity with MISA. From the Marshall Islands to the wider region, the legacy of nuclear testing continues to affect lives, yet the resilience of our people—especially our youth—remains strong as we carry forward our stories, advocate for justice, and demand accountability. We stand in solidarity with all affected communities and reaffirm our commitment to a nuclear-free and independent Pacific.

On the 1 March campaigners for nuclear justice will mark Nuclear Victims Remembrance Day.

From its beginnings in the Marshall Islands as a commemoration to honor victims and survivors of US nuclear testing, it is now marked by affected communities across the Pacific and around the world.

This day is held on the anniversary of the 1954 Castle Bravo hydrogen bomb test by the United States at Bikini Atoll.
This was the largest ever nuclear weapon test the US conducted, which led to intense radioactive fallout and ongoing contamination, displacement, and intergenerational health impacts for the Marshallese people.
