🌱 And that's a wrap on the 11th Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (PHOAFS) Meeting!

Day 3 brought powerful conversations from celebrating the incredible women driving Pacific agriculture to endorsing outcomes that will shape the future of food systems across our region. Here is the recap:

✅ The first part of the discussions was centred around the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer. Heads noted the vital role of women farmers in Pacific agriculture, hearing inspiring stories from Solomon Islands agribusiness entrepreneurs who shared their journey navigating financial and market challenges.

✅ Heads provided strategic guidance on priority agenda items for the 2027 ministerial meeting, ensuring the agenda reflects shared regional priorities.

✅ The global fuel crisis was a key part of discussions and its impact on agriculture across Pacific Island countries and territories, sharing how countries are navigating disruptions currently and mitigation measures.

✅ Heads endorsed the outcomes of the 11th PHOAFS meeting, with the 2027 Pacific Week of Agriculture and Forestry confirmed to take place from 31 May – 4 June in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

🌱 Day 2 of the 11th Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (PHOAFS) meeting kept the momentum going!

🌊From climate negotiations to data sovereignty, heads tackled the big issues shaping the future of agriculture and food security across our region. Another strong day of dialogue, commitment, and Pacific-led action. Here are the highlights 👇🏾 👇🏾

✅ Heads affirmed the national relevance of technical network activities and regional public goods, with countries and development partners expressing strong support for their services.

✅Critical importance of the Pacific Pesticide Registration Scheme (PRPRS) acknowledged in sustainable regional pesticide management, encouraging countries to formalise participation with calls to fund the establishment of a pesticides unit and advisory board.

✅Need for greater alignment with Pacific Small Island Developing States priorities surrounding agriculture and food systems, and maintaining the 1.5°C goal with guidance provided to Pacific negotiators ahead of COP31.

✅Need to strengthen data governance and country ownership considerations, with next steps focused on engaging member countries on governance design.

The 11th Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (PHOAFS) meeting, chaired by the Solomon Islands 🇸🇧, began yesterday, bringing together senior agricultural and forestry leaders from across the to review progress on regional commitments, strengthen cooperation, and set strategic priorities for resilient and inclusive food and natural resource systems.

A forward-looking dialogue will help PHOAFS set priorities ahead of the 2027 Ministers’ Meeting, keeping regional efforts aligned with national needs, global commitments, and long-term development goals.
