Wrapping Up our Yasawa Outreach for child safeguarding funded by FIJI Water Foundation and HIV Information giving supported by HEM (Health Equity Matters - Australia) this by being invited from the Mata ni Tikina Waya and all the Four Village Headmen who had allowed us to visit their villages. Last night we had an evening session of 26 participants for MYF (Methodist Youths Fellowship) of Yasawa I Yata that had allowed us to disseminate about our services linking to their Rally theme on servanthood and being call to serve for those who are out there needing help, hence knowing your purpose.

Parents and father and mother to be (Single youths) we happy that after this session they are now aware of the rights of children, penalities that comes with violation of childrens rights and most importantly coming to a realization that all children needs to be cared for, so they do not end up on the streets or contemplating self harm.

We completed with a HIV Awareness session where we provided information on the need for all to be vigilant on the increase in HIV and other s*xually transmitted infections and know what HIV and STI Is, how they are spread and the prevention methods. With thanks to HEM Australia's support we have manage to covered Yasawa as our third maritime areas for outreach hence completing 37 communities in total in the month of April and May.

Completing a evening session for Women and Children on Parental roles where it highlights the importance of supervision and ongoing support. Children were also informed on the need to always be considerate about their daily chores as rights comes with responsibilities. Many were happy to be engaged and to learn new things from this small groups. The village of Waya Levu has many houses but many have moved to nearing islands closer to their work as in Hotels around the Yasawa Groups. The evening session was facilitated by our Outreach Advocacy and Training Offier Mr. Lalakai Folau and Western Coordinator, Ms. Qaqanivalu. It was seen that many had raised a lot of questions during this session hence for further support they were informed to call our Toll free Helpline - 1528.

Vinaka FIJI Water Foundation for supporting and believing thus supporting our work that involves the increase in awareness to reduce violation of children's rights.

Our morning started with an Island hopping from Yalobi to Nalawaki Village yesterday where we started with a children session as many were enjoying their public holiday - Sukuna Day.

The session covered assessments for risk and mental health stability of a child in a circle process and with use of play therapy to assess on trauma, facilitated by our Director and Counselor Mr Ratu Inoke Drauna and the outreach team. The child session also covered knowing of the triggers of fear and that will be associated when children a touched unappropriately therefore learning of the good and bad touches, from all these 13 children only one have had their parents, sat them down and shared about good and bad touches. During the session, children was also ask to work in groups to discuss on rights and responsibilities and their household chores as in before going to school and after coming back from school. We complete the children session by doing a recap and asking all children what they have learnt with thanks to FIJI Water Foundation for supporting our safeguarding work that has not only allowed us to reach urban but also peri-urban and maritime communities.

We completed our Yasawa outreach with a session with parents and youths on HIV Awareness, where we shared about the current National Statistics on HIV hence engaged those participating with group activities on having group discussions and for them to present on their discusssions points on mode of transmission of HIV, Risky behaviors where it involves the 5 bodily fluids (Precum, S***m, Vaginal Fluid, Blood and Breast Milk) and the mode of prevention.

Completing an evening session to our second village: Yalobi as we engaged parents on positive discipline and child safeguarding session. With the increase in children moving to the streets and sharing of our profiling data and with our experience of working alongside street minors, youths, s*x workers and elderly beggars, many were reflecting on their role as parents and sharing that they are indeed grateful that this could encourage more family time and to positively approach with caution hence being so mindful of the violations of children's rights. We also with the collaboration with UNICEF we had also shared IEC materials for Male advocates and Awareness where many can access learning materials for male age 13 to 18.

We conclude with HIV awareness where both parents and youths gathered had discussed on the mode of transmission, 5 bodily Fluid, and risk behaviours that help them understand the importance of A,B and C as to assist with prevention which is to Abstain, Be faithful and Using of a Condom.

We once again that our donor partners FIJI Water Foundation and support partner HEM (Health Equity Matters - Australia) for believing and supporting our work.

This morning the team was bound for an outreach to the District of Waya in the Yasawa Groups after receiving a request to visit and provide safeguarding training for villages hence also run health awareness session on HIV. Our first Village; Natawa had Men, Women and Youths gathered where they had gone through group activities, discussion and presentation on type of abuse, Rights and Responsibilities of children and parents, this focused on boosting parent supervision and safeguarding.

Our session on HIV with funding support from HEM (Health Equity Matters - Australia) covered mostly the importance of HIV Transmission, Mode of prevention, Understanding risky behaviors associated with HIV and knowing of the importance of getting tested hence if positive to also understand the importance of treatment. Some had shared that its now vitals that we talk openly about the health issues with our youths and children, to reduce the alarming statistics shared.

We once again thank the collaboration from Mata ni Tikina and all the Village Head men who had invited hence planned to not only host us but also assist with our island hopping withing the district of Waya. We again would like to thank our donor partners FIJI Water Foundation for allowing us to reach communities for our outreach work.

Joining us at our office for an Exit interview was WFF - Monitoring and Evaluation officer and a Independent representative to assess on the implementation of the ILOI Capacity development Training funded last year. Vinaka Women's Fund Fiji For the support in allowing us to be a grantee partner for 2026 as we facilitated a two weeks training with 12 modules for marginalized women and At-Risk Youths from Western - Daulomani Safe Home , Northern - Bulileka Hart Home and Central - Nabua Methodist Hall.

A milestone achievement is getting to re-visit some of those shelters and graduates from this ILOI (Independent, Loved & Owning It) Program to witness over 70% of the 58 graduates, now finding employment, starting their own business hence some moving out of these shelter and proving that they are now independent, however a few of which is still mainly influence with the pressure of Peers from the streets, had moved back hence still needing that consistent visitation and support.

We wouldn't have gotten to know of the new trends of what is happening to most of our street dwellers or marginalized women and youths, this mostly related to being at high risk of abuse or violence, infection of HIV, need for Health Treatments or mental health support, if Women's Fund Fiji had not step in to fund and support the work. We therefore take this time to again thank you for allowing us through "YOUR" Support to be an Impact and agent of change to those who are always left behind!.
