September 3 | Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

Today the Church remembers Saint Gregory the Great (c. 540–604), a true shepherd and a humble servant of God. Born in Rome, he first served the city as Prefect before turning toward spiritual life as a monk. His path led him to serve as a deacon, papal ambassador to Constantinople, and ultimately on this day in 590, as pope.

Gregory’s papacy was marked by deep compassion for the poor and unshakable commitment to spreading and strengthening the faith. His wise leadership and influential writings on faith and morals still inspire us today to live our faith through loving action.
May we, like Saint Gregory, extend our love in deeds especially to those in need and let our faith shine in the world.
