✨ Upcycling Veisari Project: Our Final 2-Day Workshop Completed! ✨

After several weeks of postponing from the beginning of the month, we finally completed our 2-day Upcycling Education Workshop on the 24th & 25th of November — right on time as we close the final month of our 6-month Veisari Upcycling Project.

At the beginning of this journey, we presented our sevusevu to the Vanua of Navakavu, acknowledging the custodians of the land and informing them of our mission:
💥To help households earn from their waste and protect their environment through upcycling.
Through our collaboration with Trashboom Pacific , Ledua's Art Collections - Tiko and Envirotech Solutions Pacific our project made a real impact in Waikerekere Village, especially through our M&E work in trash data collection and water quality testing during the first half of the project.

With the recent passing of a community member in Muaivuso, and out of respect for the Vanua, we had to postpone and relocate trainings for the other four villages. Even with one week left before the project deadline, we were blessed to secure our new venue at Kalekana Settlement, thanks to the support from Community Policing and partners working on the ground.
Because of the last-minute venue changes, many allocated speakers were unable to make it. But our MSME community stepped up for us.
Vinaka vakalevu to Noleen Billings and Noellie Garand for stepping in as motivational speakers and inspiring our women and youth on short notice.

Today, we celebrate the graduation of 16 new upcyclers — bringing our total number trained to 29 since July. 🎉
Over the two days, participants learned how to:

🔥Transform discarded cardboard into gift hamper boxes

💥Rip plastic bottles into thin strips for broom-making, weaving, twines, and future upcycling products
A huge highlight:
🎊With support from Beyond Talent Consultation, FRCS joined today’s session, providing basic understanding on business compliance and legislation to more than 15 participants.

This workshop brought together:
✅ Upcycling education
✅ Compliance and business knowledge
✅ Govt opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs
✅ Trash data collection
✅ Water quality testing
…all in one powerful learning space.

Vinaka vakalevu to our partners — State Department, YPL, Cultural Vistas, TrashBoom Pacific, Envirotech Solutions Pacific, Leduas Art Collection, and Beyond Talent Consultation — for standing with us every step of the way.
What a fruitful, inspiring, and empowering two days.
No one is left behind. ❤️🌿

This picture speaks volumes. As part of our ongoing collaboration with Trashboom Pacific, Envirotech Solutions Pacific and Ledua's Art Collections - Tiko , this image paints a thousand words about why we do what we do: FOR OUR PEOPLE!!
Seeing these kids enjoying a swim in the river might look unappealing to some, but for someone like me who grew up in a village, this is pure joy. I remember how we couldn't wait to go swim in our local river.🥰
This picture is so powerful because we know our children are safe from the waste, thanks to nature's resilience and the Trash Boom, which serves its purpose perfectly. It protects both our environment and our children.

What an incredible day! 🙏 Yesterday(1st Nov) marked another milestone for our upcycling journey, and my heart is so full.
As a founder, it's easy to get caught up in the challenges, especially when you're trying to turn a big vision into reality. But yesterday proved that our mission is valid, needed, and fully supported by our community. Pitching for an upcycle hub is our dream, but the amazing support from our partners and volunteers shows that nothing will stop us from doing what we are called to do!

A massive Vinaka vakalevu to the powerhouse team at Selfless Fiji and our team at the Upcycling Veisari Project for pulling off our first major sorting day! Together, with 11 incredible volunteers, we rolled up our sleeves and made a tangible impact.

We are also so grateful to our wonderful donors, Raiwaqa Bakery Pte Ltd and , and to the kind supporter who found us on Facebook! Your contributions are the raw materials for our change.
Here’s a snapshot of what we accomplished together:
♻️Sorted 100+ plastic bottles (1L) by size.
♻️Separated different plastics like PET 2 and 5.
♻️Categorized 40+ shampoo bottles (HDPE 2).
♻️Sorted 400+ empty jam jars and 100+ pieces of flattened cardboard.

To put that in perspective, here's a rough breakdown of what we sorted:
✔️Jam Jars: A whopping 62% of our sorted items!
✔️Plastic Bottles (1L): 16%
✔️Cardboard: 16%
✔️Shampoo Bottles: 6%

This is just the beginning, and for a first effort, this is PHENOMENAL! This is more than just sorting waste; it's about building a circular economy, one bottle, one jar, and one community at a time.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the entire team at Upcycling Veisari, thank you. The future is green, and it's looking bright! 🌍💚

What if we told you that your"trash" could build a community? 🤔
We are so proud to partner with Fiji, an amazing NGO dedicated to voluntary work across Fiji, to launch our first ever public Upcycling SORTING DAY‼️‼️ This coming Saturday, the 1st November, we're putting that belief into action.
On this special day, our team of volunteers will roll up their sleeves to sort donations, clean materials, and prepare everything for our community workshops and manufacturers. This is where your old jeans and cardboard boxes get a new life!
It's about time, Fiji. Let's change our perspective and start looking at trash as a resource. Join us in this movement!
We need your donations: Egg boxes, Milk boxes, Art supplies, Tires, Pallets, Denim jeans, Broken jewellery, Cardboards.

Planning DONE! ✅ Today in Muaivuso, we met with the amazing women leaders of the Yavusa of Navakavu to finalize everything for our big 2-day workshop on November 6th & 7th!
A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially Mr. Nawatu for helping us organize and Saurara Mafi for sharing vital info on how to start a compliant business.
Shoutout to Pita Tamani of Electrifying Energy Monkey for the ride and for sharing his green energy services! 🌿
The women from Waiqanake, Namakala, Nabaka, and Muaivuso are so enthusiastic, and we can't wait to see them at the workshop. This is a huge win for our Upcycling Veisari Project! Let's go! 🎉

We are thrilled to share a major mid-project milestone from our Upcycling Veisari project! 🌊♻️

Team ESP has been hard at work, and their efforts are delivering real, measurable results. Our Trashboom installation at Waikerekere is proving to be a powerful tool in our fight against river pollution!

We're proud to report that in a single collection, our Trashboom successfully intercepted 15.7 kg of waste from entering our precious waterways. This collected trash includes:

· 🧷 10.7 kg of disposable hygiene products
· 🥤 1.0 kg of PET plastic bottles
· 🛍️ 0.5 kg of flexible plastic packaging
· 🏠 3.5 kg of general household trash

This data is crucial as our team continues its vital Water and Air Quality testing to understand the full impact of this cleanup.

But our work isn't done! The momentum continues as we prepare for our second and final round of upcycling education workshops. We're excited to campaign and engage with the rest of the Veisari community in the upcoming months, empowering everyone with the knowledge to turn waste into resource.

Stay tuned for more updates! A huge vinaka vakalevu to our dedicated team and the Veisari community for your ongoing support.
