Hiljainen lukupiiri on inspiroitunut kansainvälisesti suosituksi muodostuneesta Silent Book Club -toiminnasta, jonka käynnistivät sanfanciscolaiset Guinevere de la Mare ja Laura Gluhanich vuonna 2012. Come and read your book while others read theirs 📖Turku Book Café's (= Kirjakahvila, Kirjis) Quiet Reading Circle is inspired by the internationally popular Silent Book Club, which was started by Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich in San Francisco, 2012. Muunsukupuolisten kahvihetki on kuukausittainen matalan kynnyksen vertaistukitapaaminen kaikille muunsukupuolisuuden kirjoon kuuluville ja sukupuolestaan epävarmoille. Tapaamiseen voi tulla vain kuuntelemaan, jos ei tahdo puhua. Tapaaminen on itseohjautuva eikä sillä ole koulutettuja vetäjiä. Kesäkaudella kahvihetki voi siirtyä läheiseen puistoon.

At this presentation, we are going to talk about the reality of resistance against Lukashenko's regime and the russian empire from the anarchist perspective. We will also share the history of modern anarchism movement in a post-soviet Belarus and where it's now."

Kesäkuussa Kirjakahvilassa nähtävä Usvattaren eli Anastasia Hartikaisen itsenäisen taidenäyttelyn debyytti "Havaitsijavaikutus" esittelee teoksia, joissa taiteilija tutkii erilaisten tunne- ja tajunnantilojen visuaalista ilmaisua ja leikittelee pyhyyden, tabujen, kauneuden ja rumuuden vastakkainasettelun kuin myös rinnakkaiselon mystiikalla. Piirroksissa kartoitetaan ihmispsyyken kirjoa feminiinisen omakokemuksen näkökulmasta kohti abstraktia, soljuvaa ja estotonta luovuutta sekä määrittelemättömiä olemisen tiloja. Surrealistiseen maailmaan kutsuva intiimi näyttely koostuu näistä aiheista juurtuvista muutaman vuoden aikana tehdyistä mustepiirroksista. Aiemmin Hartikaisen teoksia on ollut esillä Amos Andersonin Generation 2017 -näyttelyssä ja Psykedeelit ja luovuus -taidekirjassa.

Resistance against the authoritarian regime in Belarus: an Anarchist Perspective - A presentation by Anarchist Black Cross Belarus. An info & solidarity event on Friday 5.6. in Kirjakahvila at 18.

It's been 6 years since people in Belarus rose up against the dictatorship of Lukashenko and for months tried to get rid of the authoritarian regime through peaceful demonstrations, direct actions, strikes and acts of sabotage. The world has changed radically since that uprising with the situation in Belarus becoming even more precarious since russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

At this presentation, we are going to talk about the reality of resistance against Lukashenko's regime and the russian empire from the anarchist perspective. We will also share the history of modern anarchism movement in a post-soviet Belarus and where it's now.

*The drawing used for the poster was created in prison by Sergey Romanov, an anarchist that got 24-year sentence for the fight against Lukashenko's regime.

Tänään luemme yhdessä Kirjiksen hiljaisessa lukupiirissä ja vielä samana iltapäivänä kokoontuu piirtovintti, jossa osallistujat pääsevät piirtelemään ja edistämään omia projektejaan!

Tiistaina kokoontuvassa akateemisen transverkoston kirjakerhossa perehdytään Leslie Feinbergin teokseen Stone Butch Blues.

Keskiviikkona lukupiirissä keskustellaan Andreas Malmin teoksesta The Destruction of Palestine is the Destruction of Earth. Illalla pihan lavalla kuullaan musiikkia aina housesta teknoon, kun kesäkeidas palaa jälleen tanssittamaan elektronisen musiikin ystäviä.

Torstaina kokoontuu kevätkauden viimeinen kollaasipaja ja perjantaina puolestaan kokoonnumme Kirjiksen kässäkerhoon, johon ovat tervetulleita kaikki käsitöiden ja niiden tekijöiden ystävät 🧶

Today we will gather to read together in the book café's quiet reading circle and on the same afternoon the Turku Comics Society will organize a drawing club in which the participants can come draw and advance their own projects!

On Tuesday the Academic Trans Network's book club will discuss Leslie Feinberg's book Stone Butch Blues.

On Wednesday Turku with Palestine's reading circle will discuss Andreas Malm's book The Destruction of Palestine is the Destruction of Earth. In the evening we will hear music from house to techno, as TYEMYY kesäkeidas event returns to treat the friends of electronic music.

On Thursday, the collage workshop will gather for the last time for this spring semester, and on Friday there will be a crafts circle; all friends of crafts & those who do crafts are welcome 🧶

On Saturday Punx for Seitan Fest fundraising meets gothic anti-fascist solidarity at an open air gig by Absturz, Slowkill, VAR & Svarta havet.

Svarta havet emerged from the Finnish DIY punk and political hardcore scene in 2018. While the members bond over a shared affinity for punk music and community-first ideals with a focus on anti-fascist, feminist, trans and q***r politics, their definition-evading music is harder to put into boxes. Nevertheless, they are known for being heavy both in sound and lyrical themes, and are often referred to as an ethereal amalgam of post-hardcore and antifa post-black metal. Svarta havet are currently recording their third album.

Shimmering guitars, drum machines and dark, evocative bass pads. Stockholm-based Christian Williamsson combines reverb-drenched shoegaze with dark and dreamy tunes. This extremely productive one-person project expands into a blooming live band that resembles a mixture of darkwave-esque Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cure. Slowkill has ventured deeper and deeper into melodic darkgaze with the sophomore "Shores of Erebos" album that was released in March through Inåt Bakåt Records.

Var is a Helsinki/Gothenburg based electronic music collective rooted in minimalist cold wave. They explore themes of gender, class and alienation in modern society, and have been compared to e.g. Anne Clark, though their expression goes beyond 1980s nostalgia. Var released their first cassette and have been performing live since 2024.

Tervetuloa myymään tarpeetonta, ostamaan tarpeellista tai vaikka vain jätskille ja virvokkeille Kirjiksen terassille myytävien levyjen soidessa pihassa. Tänäkin kesänä kirppiksillä on aina myös (ja säästä riippumatta vähintään) Kirjakahvilan tukimyyntipöytiä.

Kirppis on avoinna klo 12–16, myyntipaikkaa voi tulla pystyttämään klo 11.30 alkaen. Myyntipaikat ovat maksuttomia, ei ilmoittautumista. Oma pöytä tai viltti mukaan. Auringon porottaessa suosittelemme sateen-/päivänvarjoa. Brinkkalan pihassa ei ole parkkipaikkoja.

Come sell what you no longer need, buy something you've been looking for – or just have a snack and something to drink under the summer sun while listening to records being sold at the flea market. This summer we’re again setting up solidarity sale tables for Kirjakahvila, so in case of bad weather, there'll at least be that indoors.

The flea market is open from 12 to 16, you can come set up your space from 11.30 onwards. No registrations or reservations, vending spaces are free of charge. Bring your own table or blanket. On a sunny day, we recommend bringing along an umbrella. There's no parking in the Brinkkala yard.

The 2026 Brinkkala yard sales are held on Saturdays 23 May, 13 June, 4 and 18 July, 1 August (punk flea market at Punx for Seitan Fest), 8 and 22 August, 5 and 19 September, and 3 October (the Shadow Book Fair flea market).

Tänään luettiin (ja luetaan jälleen ensi maanantaina) hiljaisessa lukupiirissä. Keskiviikkona on Kirjiksen ja kevään croquis-sarjan viimeinen kerta. Perjantain q***r open mic -tapahtumaan voi tulla esittämään omaa taidettaan tai vain kuulemaan muiden esityksiä. Lauantaina Brinkkalan pihakirppiksellä on mukana Kirjakahvilan tukipöytä sekä mahdollisuus tulla itse pitämään myyntipaikkaa. Myyntipaikat ovat maksuttomia, eikä niitä varten tarvitse ilmoittautumista.

Today we read together in Kirjis' quiet reading circle (and will continue next Monday). On Wednesday there will be the last night of the Book Café and B-gallery's spring croquis series. On Friday you are welcome to listen to others' art or perform your own on our Q***r Open Mic event. Hiljainen lukupiiri on inspiroitunut kansainvälisesti suosituksi muodostuneesta Silent Book Club -toiminnasta, jonka käynnistivät sanfanciscolaiset Guinevere de la Mare ja Laura Gluhanich vuonna 2012. Lisätietoa (englanniksi): https://silentbook.club/pages/about-us. Kirjiksen hiljainen lukupiiri ei ole rekisteröitynyt Silent Book Clubin viralliseksi paikallisosastoksi, joten emme siitä syystä käytä trademarkattua SBC-nimeä.
Lukupiirin periaate on silti sama: kokoonnumme Kirjakahvilan divari- eli Kirjala-huoneessa ja luemme hiljaa omia kirjojamme reilun tunnin ajan, n. klo 14.10 alkaen. Tuon ajan huoneen ovi pidetään kiinni. Lukuajan päätyttyä klo 15.30 ovi avataan ja tämän jälkeen osallistujilla on mahdollisuus käydä vielä vapaata keskelua luetuista kirjoista. Keskusteluun osallistuminen on tietysti täysin vapaaehtoista.

Come and read your book while others read theirs 📖
Turku Book Café's (= Kirjakahvila, Kirjis) Quiet Reading Circle is inspired by the internationally popular Silent Book Club, which was started by Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich in San Francisco, 2012. More information: https://silentbook.club/pages/about-us. Kirjis' Quiet Reading Circle is not registered as an official chapter of the Silent Book Club, so we do not use the trademarked name.
The principle of our reading circle is still the same: we gather in the Kirjakahvila used books/Kirjala room and read our own books silently for a little over an hour, starting at approximately 2:10 PM. During that time, the door to the room will be closed. After the reading time ends at 3:30 PM, the door will be opened and participants will have the opportunity to have a free discussion about the books they have read. Participation in the discussion is, of course, completely voluntary.

The drawing starts at 6:30 PM and consists of three approximately 20-minute sessions, with breaks in between. We will draw poses of different lengths.
Bring your own drawing tools and a 2-3 euro donation for the model.

Turun Varjokirjamessut järjestetään taas 2.—4.10.2026 Taiteen talossa ja Kirjakahvilassa. Haluamme rakentaa vuoden 2026 Turun Varjokirjamessuja yhdessä osallistujien kanssa. Nyt sinulla, ryhmälläsi tai kaveriporukallasi on mahdollisuus ehdottaa sisältöä tapahtumaan. Ohjelmasisältö voi olla monenlaista: käytännön työpaja, paneelikeskustelu, kirjailijahaastattelu, keskustelutilaisuus, kirjaesittely, lukupiiri, kahvihetki tai jotain ihan muuta! Ohjelman voi pitää suomeksi, englanniksi tai ruotsiksi.

Toivomme tapahtuman tuovan yhteen ihmisiä, vahvistavan toveruuksia ja luovan uusia suhteita ja yhteistyötä. Yhdessä voimme oppia toisiltamme ja eri kamppailuista sekä rakentaa sortoa tuottavien valtarakenteiden tilalle jotain parempaa.
