International Day of Zero Waste 2026
Zero Waste Day calls on people, governments and organizations around the world to take concrete action to prevent waste, advance circular solutions and strengthen zero waste food systems.
This year’s theme, Food Waste, highlights a critical yet preventable driver of environmental harm. Nearly 19% of all food available to consumers is wasted every year, accelerating climate emissions and draining valuable resources such as land, water and energy.
Around 60% of food waste happens at the household level, which means our everyday choices truly matter. Reducing food waste is one of the most effective climate actions we can take, while also saving money and protecting resources.
Actions you can take to tackle food waste:
📝 Plan, buy, store and prepare food mindfully
🫴 Support food recovery, redistribution and composting initiatives
🥕 Through everyday actions, help make food waste socially unacceptable
Let’s value food, not waste it!
