STIL-Slow Travel in Northern Rural Landscapes
Project aims: to develop cross-border cycling in the Finland, Sweden and Norway. Funded by Interreg NORD.

Project partners: LUKE, LUAS, ULapland (FI), Pajala municipality (SWE) and UiT (NO). The STIL project will develop 'slow travel' (muscle strength based) summer tourism in the north and will utilize cross-border cultural values in creating tour cycling routes in the northern regions of Finland, Sweden and Norway. The project aims to strengthen cooperation and networking across borders between touri

sm and other service companies and municipalities. Through workshops and coaching, the project provides information to companies about the needs and aspirations of target groups associated with cycling. Outside the region, knowledge is spread about the cycling opportunities and destinations of the northern regions, as well as of its culture and nature. The results are 1) mapping and description of suitable long distance cycling routes (4-5) in the North with their associated service offerings and 2) a network of businesses and increased awareness of cyclists’ needs and opportunities for cycling tourism.
