Real life story
In 1997 I went to Wa to look for construction work as a labourer in order to get today's GHs 27.00 to pay my school fees arrears so that I could get my results when the results are released by WAEC. The guy who assured me of accommodation when I got there I realised that he and his sister were perching in the hall of their senior sister and the husband. I had 60 pesewas on me so I mastered courage and was going round looking for a room to rent. At that time a room on the average was 20 pesewas a month so I was hoping to pay at least 1 month and manage with the 40 pesewas so that at the end of the day when I secure job as a labourer I can then pay for 1 year advance. No land lord accepted my offer of paying one or two months advance. But God being so wonderful I came across a Butcher popularly known as Navi Doo at Kambali.. He told me that he had a room which he had given to students of Wa Technical Institute and that since I was also a student he didn't expect me to have money to pay rent. He was to accommodate me on condition that in the raining season I go to his farm which as a son of a peasant farmer I readily accepted. He asked me to buy a 1/4 of Akpetesi for him to pour libation before I moved into his house. In excitement I bought half bottle. When I sent the stuff he asked me to taste it first and my brother Francis Dery of blessed memory who was with the Deeper life ministry asked me whether I would really drink the Apetesi and I asked him " could you get me a place to sleep?". I went ahead and pulled the Akpet and squeezed my face. In fact I gave thanks to God for the favour of accommodation. The following day the late John D**g former MP of Lambusie gave me job as labourer at his construction site the FIC building around Wa Technical institute. I went to town looking for a bowl to buy and my money could only afford a chamber pot for kids as my eating bowl. When I soaked my gari in it for the 1st time one old lady in that house quickly called me " my grandfather, throw that bowl away and come for a plate, we don't use that one you are having to eat". I threw it away and went to her for a decent bowl. Within three months I got Ghs 97 Ghana cedis far above the GHs 27 I needed to pay my school fees. Fast foward the results were out and people in my village were broadcasting everywhere that I had aggregate 11 from the mighty Nandom Senior High.Today I have set up an award for the best WASSCE student of Nansec and I have to always remind the School before they submit the name of the winner to me every year because someone thinks I have set up the award for political favours. Today I have given scholarships to over five (5) LL.B students and others think that I had it easy in studying law ( I will revisit my law study later). It pains me that I returned to Wa Kambali a few years ago asking to locate Navi Doo to thank him for accommodating me free in his house in 1997 which enabled me to work and secured my school fees only to be told he was late. As for John Doo the former MP for Lambusie in 2010 or so when NPP hosted its National Delegates Congress at Tamale Stadium I saw him standing with some of his Constituency delegates looking for a means to their hotel. I PULLED UP in an American Chevolet and I asked him " Master where are you heading toward" and he answered "to our hotel". I asked him to get on board with his team. He asked me do we know ourselves? And I replied "Master this is your chief labourer at the FIC site in 1997".He was shocked! People only fail in life because they over rely on others or follow the masses or give up easily. God answers our prayers silently.eal life story
