*Shashank Subramanyam: venu-huilut*
Tämän hetken kenties merkittävin karnaattisen musiikin instrumentalisti Shashank Subramanyam konsertoi Pohjankartanon salissa launtaina 21. lokakuuta. Suomessa ensi kertaa kuullaan Shashankin konsertti, jossa hän soittaa eteläistä intialaisen klassisen musiikin perinnettä, karnaattista musiikkia.
Shashank Subramanyam on arvostettu muusikko sekä eteläintialaisen venu-huilun mestari. Jo 6-vuotiaana ihmelapsena uransa aloittanut Shashank on yli 30-vuotisen uransa aikana esiintynyt ympäri maailmaa sekä julkaissut yli 70 albumia. Mittavan artistinuransa lisäksi Shashank on tehnyt uraauurtavaa työtä venu-huilun soiton kehittäjänä ja uudistajana. Shashankin karnaattisen musiikin opettajat olivat laulajia, ja hänen soittotekniikkansa mahdollistaa hänen sointi- ja idearikkaan, ihmisääneen pohjaavan ilmaisunsa.
Monipuolisena ja ennakkoluulottomana muusikkona tunnettu Shashank on perinteisen karnaattisen musiikin lisäksi tehnyt paljon yhteistyötä niin hindustanilaisten muusikoiden kuin länsimaisten jazzmuusikoidenkin kanssa sekä esiintynyt mm. sinfoniaorkeste¬rien solistina. *Hänet on myös nähty Turun musiikkijuhlilla vuonna 2013, jolloin hän kantaesitti suomalaisten nykysäveltäjien eturiviin kuuluvan Eero Hämeenniemen teoksen yhdessä Meta4-kvartetin ja Sai Giridharian (mridangam) kanssa. Viime uuden vuoden aattona hän esiintyi täydessä Musiikkitalossa Helsingin barokkiorkesterin juhlakonsertissa ”Les Indes Galantes” solistina yhdessä mridangamin soittaja Parupalli Phalgunin kanssa. Hän esitti Suomen kantaesityksenä Eero Hämeenniemen sävellyksen Sprezzatura.*
Shashank tekee yhteistyötä intialaisten ja ympäri maailmaa toimivien muusikoiden, kuten John McLaughlinin, Shanxin sinfoniaorkeste¬rien kanssa ja tanskalaisen Pierre Dorgen kanssa, jonka kvintetissä hän esiintyy tämän vuoden Helsinkin ja Kööpenhaminan jazzfestivaaleilla.

Dear O-India Family,

After careful consideration of all comments/suggestions/questions raised by different people, we have revised the Membership form for 2023.

The main changes are:
Family membership (Main member + Spouse) is reintroduced with 7€ membership fee
Membership fee for students in 15-18y age category has been waived off

With this, if any of you have paid in excess (for e.g., Spouse or Student in 15-18y category), the same will be adjusted against the upcoming events. Also, individuals who have already registered themselves can register their spouses by paying the difference amount for Family membership (2€).

For the sake of convenience and transparency, Membership fee and fundamental principles are embedded in the form. Please transfer the membership fee, fill/submit the form, and share the transaction snapshot to [email protected] for bookkeeping purposes.

Please submit your membership forms before 31st Aug 2023, communication channels such as Google group and WhatsApp group will be created/updated to include all registered members.

We are looking forward to your continued active participation and cooperation. If you have any questions or need assistance with the membership process, feel free to contact us.

Dear O-Indians,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of the entire O-India board for your invaluable contribution to our Independence Day celebrations. To the little soldiers who actively participated in the independence day activities, your energy and involvement truly made a world of difference, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the way everything turned out.

Special thanks to Prof. Mahesh Somani and Mrs. Aruna Somani for adding an extra layer of honor and significance to our event. To our dedicated volunteers, your unwavering commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work made this event a resounding success.

We believe that recognizing the efforts of organizations like ours can inspire greater participation in activities that align with the shared goals of the embassy and our organization.

Dress code: traditional Indian attire or colors of the national flag
Time of meeting: 18:15
National Anthem singing: 18:30
Mithai distribution: 18:35
Certificate distribution for today’s participants: 18:45 onwards

Venue: Ratti car park towards Aionolan Puisto.
