Today, we join Nigerians at home and across the globe in commemorating 66 years of Nigeria’s independence.
We honour the men and women whose courage, sacrifice and contributions shaped Nigeria’s journey to independence and continued to influence the nation’s development.
Independence is also an opportunity to reflect on what we can contribute today.
As a community, we celebrate the resilience, creativity, hard work and never-give-up spirit of Nigerians. We are proud of our heritage and of the many ways Nigerians, including those from Akwa Ibom and Cross River, contribute to Finnish society and build bridges between our two countries.
Our journey, like that of every nation, has had its challenges. Yet, we remain hopeful about what is possible when we choose unity over division, collaboration over isolation, and contribution over indifference.
May we continue to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom and Cross River, living with integrity, embracing diversity, supporting one another and creating opportunities for those who come after us.
Our heritage gives us roots.
Our unity gives us strength.
Our collective effort gives us hope for the future.
Together, we can contribute to a more peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
