WICTU – One of Lions Clubs International’s Most Impactful Humanitarian Initiatives
When the war in Ukraine began in 2022, Lions Clubs International faced one of its greatest humanitarian challenges. In response, the WICTU projects were launched – an international effort involving over 30 countries to support Ukraine amid the crisis.
Concrete Results Across Four Phases
Since its inception, WICTU 1–4 has delivered aid directly impacting daily life in Ukraine:
• 20,900 wood stoves
• 2,260 generators
• Collaboration with participants from over 30 countries
Wood stoves have provided essential warmth to homes and shelters during the harshest winter months, while generators have kept schools, health centers, and critical public services operational during power outages – lifesaving support for many.
WICTU4 – The Next Step
The fourth phase focuses on medium-sized generators purchased directly from manufacturers, reducing costs, improving quality, and speeding up delivery. This ensures aid reaches the locations where it is most urgently needed.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Finland supports the project, assisting with logistics – a strong testament to Lions’ reputation for reliable, transparent, and effective humanitarian work.
First Shipment
The initial WICTU4 shipment is headed to the area of Chernihiv. Local Lions clubs have identified schools, health centers, and other facilities in need, carefully matching each generator to the recipient’s specific requirements.
Long-Term Impact
Even after the conflict ends, Ukraine’s power infrastructure will remain damaged for years. WICTU4 generators play a crucial role in rebuilding the country and ensuring long-term daily security.
A Project That Unites Lions Clubs
WICTU demonstrates the power of international collaboration and solidarity. It reflects Lions’ commitment to service, dedication, and global humanitarian impact – every day, across borders.
We Serve.
