📢 President-elect Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election. Vote counting in key swing states in the Sunbelt and Rustbelt states confirmed his victory, with major news outlets projecting his win based on their decision desk analyses. Trump delivered his victory speech early this morning, focusing on national unity. 🇺🇸

🗳 Preliminary results indicate that the Republican party will take control of the Senate, but if the Democrats manage to hold onto the House, continued Congressional gridlock is likely. In this case, the policy will be mainly implemented through presidential executive orders and nominations.

❗ It is important to remember that Finland’s relationship with the U.S. has never been stronger, which bodes well for our future bilateral cooperation. In his previous term, Trump had a strong tendency towards bilateralism versus multilateralism.

All in all, Trump favors a more isolationist approach, reducing U.S. participation in global economic institutions. Less global cooperation reduces the effectiveness of international economic institutions that maintain global trade stability.

✨ What an empowering way to kick off the International Women's Day! ♀️ This morning, together with Patria, we host a wonderful and inspiring group of executive women from the Amcham Women's Network for a 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 event.

💐 We thank our speakers Tuija Karanko, Secretary General of the Association of Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries, Sara Kajander of , 's Alicia Viktoria Jensen and 's Leena Orpo for the interactive exchange within the panel and the audience.

🤝The discussion touched upon the advancing female participation in the and aerospace industry, as well as the changes in the defence and security environment today. It also highlighted the importance of networking for women entering the defence field, and fostering a diverse and inclusive working environment within the sector.

🎓 Congratulations to Maki Vanajas, our Business Administration Intern, on your graduation! 🌟 We're thrilled that you are now officially one of the three Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences alumnae on the Amcham team.

In 2023, the Amcham Finland team of 7 (yes, seven) has organized 50+ events and meetings with just over 1650 participants, published 3 reports, and welcomed 23 new members together! 🎉

🤝 Yesterday, amid a full-swing transport strike, we all got together from around Helsinki for a morning team meeting and brainstorming session. Business first, and then the organizing team, Maki and Rosa, took over and led us from one surprise to another.

We celebrated a year full of meaningful hard work and another year of awesome teamwork together in style! The team also got to try out — one of our .partners' restaurants before we parted. From indoor skydiving 🧑‍🚀, go-karting 🏎️, and ceramic-making 🎨, to learning how to play poker 🃏, this team has shared many new experiences together.

💪 Let's continue to work towards being the voice of international business and home of success all year round together.✨

👋 While our flagship Thanksgiving event is right around the corner, the Amcham Finland team continues to advance our advocacy work. Elsa Korpi, our Policy Lead, has been actively fostering collaboration and partnerships between the public and private sectors. Check out some pictures taken during our recent advocacy activities:

🤝 Last week, Elsa, along with our CEO, Alexandra Pasternak-Jackson, met with Alvin Liu, Managing Director of MSD Finland, to welcome and introduce him to the Amcham membership.
🤝 On November 1, we hosted members and policymakers from TEM and UM at the follow-up Transatlantic Science, Tech, and Innovation Roundtable, held at our member Hannes Snellman's offices.
🤝 Just yesterday, Rosa Thurman, Elsa, and Amcham members of the Strategic Working Group met with Elina Pylkkänen, Permanent State Under-Secretary at TEM.

🎃 Happy Halloween! Last Friday, Amcham celebrated Halloween with our members and partners by delving into the spookier side of leadership. The Dark Future event featured worst-case scenario planning, and in turn, how to build resilience as a leader in an eerie time.

🤝 Thank you, Aki Kangasharju, Managing Director of ETLA for shedding light on the darkest economic scenarios, and Minna Ålander, Research Fellow at for offering a comprehensive perspective on potential negative geopolitical shifts.

We also want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ella Mikkola and Jaakko Somersalmi of EY for hosting us at their brand-new office space and for their insights on how scenario planning plays a crucial role in building resilience across an organization.

🍂 This morning, our team members Katie Girow and Maki Vanajas had a lovely visit to in Meilahti. We thank you, Johanna Huhtariihi and Leena Lehtovaara, for warmly hosting us!

🤝 During our visit, we engaged in a meaningful conversation and learned about the remarkable charitable efforts undertaken by Ronald McDonald House Charities in Helsinki. It served as a powerful reminder of why we have chosen to partner with them as our charitable cause for our for the second consecutive year. 🤗

🗓 On Oct 10, Amcham Finland and decoded Finland’s strategy for international with a packed house. Getting straight into key topics were our panelists Saara-Sofia Sirén (Kokoomus), Katri Niskanen (TEM), Susanna Mäkelä (Microsoft Finland), Ted Apter (), and Youssef Zad (Suomenstar startup-yhteisö).

🤝 We thank the audience for their questions and the lively debate they generated. The panel all expressed concerns about the proposed three-month rule, while audience members stressed repeatedly that international voices who contribute to this economy are not adequately heard.

Our key takeaways:
🔹Civil servants and politicians are listening, and it is crucial to make your opinion heard. Finland is a pragmatic and data-driven country. Decisionmakers at all levels need more and better understanding of the positive impact of international talent. There is still time to have an effect on the way the government program is implemented.
🔹Following a question from the audience, MP Sirén pledged for more international voices to be welcomed to parliament to be heard on issues affecting them. This can be done in English or by hiring an interpreter for those parliamentarians who are unsure of their English skills. She also noted that drafts of immigration-related bills could be translated into English as well.
🔹While the government acknowledges concern over certain elements like the three-month rule, it also asks for support in ensuring that other positive developments for the business community are able to move forward.

🙋‍♀️ We are actively engaging in discussions on how businesses perceive the government’s proposed immigration policies. The government’s vision ends in an important statement: “Through collaboration, Finland will make it through anything.” Resilience is built through diversity. Without the international community, the partnership for Finland’s future is incomplete.
