Today marks World Humanitarian Day. It honours those who carry out humanitarian work and those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of humanitarian work and the ongoing need to protect both aid workers and the people they serve.
YMCA Finland supports the humanitarian work of YMCA Ukraine in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kremenchuk in eastern Ukraine. Funded by Ulkoministeriö - utrikesministeriet, the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, this work promotes the education and psychosocial wellbeing of children and young people amid the war.
Summer camps are one way the YMCA strengthens the mental health of children living close to the front line by offering restorative experiences, instilling hope and nurturing the chance to simply be a child. For this reason, camp staff are also required to show particular sensitivity when interacting with children.
