In 1 Samuel 16:7, God reminds Samuel that His perspective is different from ours:
“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
It’s easy for our view to become tinted by our own ideas, expectations, experiences, and first impressions. We often judge situations, others, and even ourselves based on what we can see on the surface.
But God sees with perfect clarity.
He sees beyond appearances. He sees the heart. He sees the potential, the struggles, the growth, and the purpose that may not be visible to anyone else.
What a comfort it is to know that God is not limited by the same perspective we are. When we don’t understand why He is leading us a certain way, we can trust that He sees the full picture.
May we learn to look less at outward appearances and more through the eyes of God’s wisdom and love.
