Slow Food Helsinki

Slow Food Helsinki Slow Food works around the world to protect food biodiversity, build links between producers and consumers, and raise awareness!

(In Finnish below) Slow Food involves over a million of people dedicated to and passionate about good, clean and fair food. This includes chefs, youth, activists, farmers, fishers, experts and academics in over 150 countries; a network of around 100,000 Slow Food members linked to 1,500 local chapters worldwide (known as convivia), contributing through their membership fee, as well as the events a

nd campaigns they organize; and over 2,500 Terra Madre food communities who practice small-scale and sustainable production of quality food around the world. Through its understanding of gastronomy with relation to politics, agriculture and the environment Slow Food has become an active player in agriculture and ecology. Slow Food links pleasure and food with awareness and responsibility. The association's activities seek to defend biodiversity in our food supply, spread the education of taste, and connect producers of excellent foods with co-producers through events and initiatives. SUOMEKSI
Join us here:

Join us for a calming and immersive guided herb tasting experience, where we’ll explore the unique qualities of medicinal and aromatic plants through story, tradition, and flavor. During the session, each herb will be introduced one at a time, with insights into its key properties, traditional uses, health benefits, and the cultural or historical stories connected to it. After each introduction, we’ll taste the herb together as a freshly prepared tea, allowing space to fully experience its aroma, flavor, and effects.

The session is designed to be slow-paced, sensory, and interactive — an opportunity to deepen your connection with plants while enjoying a mindful tea ritual in community.

Over approximately 1.5 hours, we will explore around 7–10 carefully selected herbs. No prior knowledge is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to taste, learn, and connect.

The workshop is hosted by Anna Nyman. Anna is a biologist and a certified wild food guide. She also studies herbalism and finished her studies in August 2022.

Join us for the last wild mushroom foraging tour of this year at Pitkäkosken ulkoilumaja. This late-autumn foraging workshop will invite you Finnish mushroom foraging culture. In this workshop we will de-mystify mushroom foraging and reveal the bounty of the autumn forest. No previous knowledge is required!

Biologist Anna Nyman of “Foraging in Finland” will be our guide (more info about Anna at “Foraging in Finland”). You will be introduced to the most common wild mushrooms in Finland. The workshop will be held primarily in English, but you will also of course also learn the mushroom names in Finnish!

The workshop includes:

• A beginner’s foraging walk to identify wild edible mushrooms
• Introducing the local ecology and nature around Helsinki
• Learning the terrain where mushrooms grow
• Leaning to identify and safely use the most common Finnish wild mushrooms
• Learning about preserving mushrooms, including drying and freezing
• Understanding the “everyman’s rights” and the importance of sustainable foraging
• E-book about Finnish wild mushrooms in Finland (in English; available in Finnish)

Time & Date: 10:00 on Sunday, 4th October
Workshop fee: €20 for Slow Food members, €40 for non-members

NOTE: As we will be foraging away from the main paths, the workshop is not suitable for prams or strollers or for young children.

The availability of mushrooms depends on the weather conditions of autumn and varies in different terrains.
