June is rainbow-coloured! 🌈

🌈 The rainbow flag holds symbolic value for individuals who have experienced psychological or physical violence, inequality, or injustice due to their sexual orientation, gender, or the lack of recognition of these.

🌈 June has become established as the birth month of the international Pride movement. The movement is considered to have begun in New York on June 28, 1969, with the Stonewall uprising, when bar patrons, staff, and bystanders came together for the first time to resist police violence against sexual minorities.

🌈 The Red Cross advocates for equality for all sexual and gender minorities. Its activities are grounded in humanity, and equal human dignity for all is the foundation of its humanitarian work.

Everyone must have access to help in times of distress.
That is why countries have signed the Geneva Conventions and recognised the universal and impartial role of the Red Cross as a helper in conflicts. 🤝

Happy Red Cross Week! 🎈

Red Cross Day is celebrated on May 8, and around this date different Red Cross actors organize open events, activities and surprises for everyone. We showcase local activities, celebrate our volunteers and members, and offer low‑threshold opportunities to get involved, for example through membership.

In the Helsinki and Uusimaa District, our week culminates on Saturday, May 9, when our volunteers across Uusimaa will host Stops for Doing Good. These are locations where you can get to know our local activities and volunteers, enjoy everything on offer, and perhaps even win something in a raffle or on a prize wheel. ✨

In Kontti stores, we celebrate all week long in honor of Kontti’s 25‑year journey.

Happy May Day! 🌸🎉

At our office's May Day pre-celebration, we wrapped up April - our month of more sustainable mobility - by spending time outdoors in nearby nature. 🦆

In groups, we drew nature elements and also expresswd them through movement.

Back at the office, a beautifully set May Day table waited for us.

With these pictures, we wish everyone a joyful and safe May Day! 🎈🎉

SAR (Search and Rescue) is an annual airport joint operations exercise. This time the exercise will be conducted on site, and Red Cross volunteers are needed to take part!

We are especially inviting:
📌 Casualty role-players to act as accident victims
📌 First aid volunteers
📌 Psychosocial support volunteers

As a casualty role-player (maalihenkilö), you will be at the heart of the action and experience how authorities and volunteers operate in an aviation accident scenario.

SAR offers a guaranteed and fascinating insight into emergency preparedness, for both first-time participants and more experienced volunteers alike!

👉 Register by 30 April 2026 in OMA:

Happy World Health Day! 💚

Cycling is a sustainable way to stay active and benefits the body, the mind and the climate. This has even been scientifically proven.

We invite all volunteers, members and staff of the Helsinki and Uusimaa District to take part in the Kilometrikisa cycling challenge from 1 May to 30 September 2026 and cycle towards a more sustainable everyday life – for yourself and for the climate! 🚲

Find instructions and take part:

If you already have a team participating, you can also take part in the Chain Reaction alongside the Kilometrikisa and support the Red Cross’s climate work. 🌍

Earth Hour is a symbolic lights‑off moment for nature and the climate.

Switching off the lights is a symbolic act that shows we care about the planet and that we expect action from decision‑makers as well. 🌍

Celebrated globally since 2009, Earth Hour has encouraged people to take environmental action, and countless companies, municipalities, and cities around the world have taken part. The Sydney Opera House, New York’s Times Square, the Badaling section of the Great Wall in Beijing, the Citadel of Cairo, the Bosporus Bridge in Istanbul, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, the Villatehdas in Hyvinkää… Earth Hour brings everyone together.

⏳ Earth Hour 28 March 2026, 8:30–9:30 p.m.

🔦 Earth Hour also kicks off HUP’s month of sustainable mobility, which we will celebrate throughout April.

Racism is an everyday occurrence for young people, with 95% of young people between the ages of 15 and 24 saying that they have experienced or witnessed racism. 🚨

Young people want adults in particular to speak up against the racism that they face.

By taking action against racism, we create safer communities for all.
📢 Speak up against racism.

For advice on how to take action against racism and to read the results of the survey on racism, please visit our website:
