Mikä on "Box Bike"? Entäpä sitten Box Bike Helsinki?
“Box Bike” on englantia ja sillä tarkoitetaan yleensä tavaran tai pienten lasten kuljettamiseen suunniteltua kaksi-, kolme- tai jopa nelipyöräistä polkupyörää eli suomeksi tavara- tai kuormapyörää. “Cargo bike” on maailmalla yleisemmin käytetty termi. Erityisesti Hollannissa ja Tanskassa suosittuja tavarapyöriä käyttävät tavallisesti pienyrittä
jät esimerkiksi ruoka- ja kahvimyyntiin tai lapsiperheet pienten lasten kuljettamiseen. Box Bike Helsinki on Luonto-Liiton Uudenmaan piirin (nimi toimii linkkinä LUPin etusivulle) polkupyöräaiheinen ympäristökasvatushanke, missä 13-20-vuotiaiden helsinkiläisten nuorten joukkue saa suunnitella ja rakentaa itselleen sekä asuinalueensa yleiseen käyttöön ainutlaatuisen tavarapyörän. Tavarapyöriä ja niiden käyttöä ei ole aikaisemmin suunnattu nuorille, joten siksi haluamme antaa nuorille mahdollisuuden suunnitella pyörän, joka vastaa heidän tarpeitaan ja on heidän näköisensä. Nuoret opetetaan samalla myös huoltamaan ja pitämään kunnossa omat polkupyöriä ja he käyvät läpi katuajo- ja liikenne-etikettikoulutuksen. Hankkeeseen voi hakea 5-8 helsinkiläisen nuoren joukkue, joka lähettää vapaamuotoisen hakemuksen 4.12.2015 mennessä. Tammikuussa 2016 voittajajoukkue aloittaa pyörän suunnittelun ja rakentamisen. Viimeistään kesäkuun alussa on saatu valmiiksi jotain ainutlaatuista ja todella upeaa. Box Bike Helsinki gives a group of 5-8 Helsinki teenagers (13-20-year old) the freedom to design and build a unique cargo bike that suits their day-to-day needs and functions in a way they choose. We think we may the first project to associate cargo bikes with the young urban crowd, where the classic focus group has always been families with children, delivery companies or coffee entrepeneurs. Because Box Bike Helsinki likes to do things responsibly, our partners Helsinki Cyclists (www.hepo.fi) and Bike Workshop (www.pyorapaja.info) provides a customised courses in cycling in traffic and bicycle maintenance, respectively. Self-organising groups of both sexes are encouraged to apply for the project, and to do so before 4th of December. We declare the winning team soon after with a press release and in social media. The weekly design and building sessions start in january and continue until the build is finished in May-June 2016. The finished bike will be revealed to team members families, the press and to invited guests. Box Bike Helsinki is a pilot project, so we intend to learn by doing and make detailed notes on the way.
