We are inviting all researchers at the University of Helsinki for a Grant Researcher Breakfast in June.
We are currently exploring practical ways the University could make grant researchers feel more secure and included in the workplace.
During our HYT Listens Campaign last fall, we heard too many stories of grant researchers feeling as though they are ‘second-class workers’, without access to the same benefits contracted staff enjoy, despite offering so much to the University’s research community.
One potential solution is the idea of offering all grant researchers a 10% employment contract, which is what happens in other Finnish universities such as Eastern Finland, Oulu and Lapland. We are currently researching if that could be possible in Helsinki, as well as other ideas.
To help us understand the situation further, we want to speak to grant researchers directly. So in June, we are partnering with HYVÄT (Helsinki University Association for PhD students), to host 4 Grant Researcher Breakfasts across all 4 campuses.
We’ll be offering free breakfast, coffee and a union grant researcher tote-bag!
We’d love to hear your stories of working at the University as a grant researcher and get your feedback and ideas of how we can advocate to improve your situation.
The events are open to all grant researchers and everyone willing to improve their situation. You don’t have to be a union member. The events will be in English.
