🇲🇾🇲🇲 URGENT APPEAL TO MALAYSIA
To the Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia (Wisma Putra)
We respectfully urge the Government of Malaysia to halt any planned or proposed return of refugees to Myanmar, where civilians continue to face serious risks to their safety, security and fundamental rights.
The attached appeal sets out our concerns regarding the humanitarian and protection situation in Myanmar, including the principle of non-refoulement and the need to ensure that no refugee is returned to a place where they may face persecution, violence or serious danger.
We respectfully ask the Malaysian authorities to:
🔴 Suspend any forced or unsafe returns of refugees to Myanmar;
🔴 Ensure full respect for the principle of non-refoulement;
🔴 Continue providing protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees and other vulnerable people;
🔴 Consult closely with UNHCR and relevant international humanitarian organisations before any return is considered;
🔴 Support an ASEAN approach that prioritises the safety, dignity and fundamental rights of the people of Myanmar.

We sincerely ask Embassy Helsinki and Putra to carefully consider this appeal and the humanitarian consequences of any refugee return to Myanmar.
This is not only a political issue.
It is a matter of human safety, human dignity and international protection.
