**Finland Myanmar Society Ry:n lausunto Daw Aung San Suu Kyin tapaamisesta Kansainvälisen Punaisen Ristin komitean (ICRC) kanssa**

Se, että Daw Aung San Suu Kyi sai tavata Kansainvälisen Punaisen Ristin komitean (ICRC) edustajan 3. elokuuta 2026 klo 9.30, osoittaa Myanmarin demokraattisten voimien sekä kansainvälisen yhteisön, mukaan lukien ASEANin, pitkäjänteisen yhteisen painostuksen vaikuttaneen tilanteeseen.

Sotilasjuntan päätös sallia ainoastaan ICRC:n tapaaminen Daw Aung San Suu Kyin kanssa sen sijaan, että se tunnustaisi hänet Myanmarin laillisesti valituksi johtajaksi, osoittaa kuitenkin, että junta kohtelee häntä edelleen vankina eikä maan oikeutettuna siviilijohtajana.

Myanmarin poliittisen kriisin todellinen ja kestävä ratkaisu edellyttää Daw Aung San Suu Kyin sekä kaikkien poliittisten vankien välitöntä ja ehdotonta vapauttamista. **Statement by Finland Myanmar Society Ry on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross**

The meeting granted to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at 9:30 a.m. on 3 August 2026 reflects the impact of sustained collective pressure from democratic forces inside Myanmar and the international community, including ASEAN.

However, the military regime's decision to allow only the ICRC to meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, rather than recognizing her as the country's legitimately elected leader, demonstrates that it continues to treat her as a prisoner rather than as Myanmar's rightful civilian leader.

A genuine and sustainable solution to Myanmar's political crisis requires the immediate and unconditional release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners. It also requires the recognition of her legitimate role, together with other democratically elected leaders, in restoring democracy, peace, and the rule of law in Myanmar.
