Did you know that as a member of Trade Union JHL you can get financial support from us when you study at an open university or open university of applied sciences (UAS)?

JHL has opened a new study fund that awards grants for open higher education studies.

The grant covers 75% of course fees, up a maximum amount of €60 per year.

The application period of autumn 2026 is now open. You can apply for a grant until the end of October 2026.

Workplaces are not very good at recognising and managing menopause symptoms as something that affects work ability.

In a survey conducted by JHL, less than one per cent of the respondents answered that their workplace has practices for supporting work ability during menopause. 73% answered that there are no such practices in their workplace, and 26% were not sure.

“We must ensure that experienced employees get the support they need to continue working. This is a matter of both work ability and equality at work”, comments the Chief Executive Officer of JHL Mari Keturi.

JHL conducted a menopause survey that received responses from nearly 10,000 members. Most workplaces do not have practices for recognising menopause symptoms.

Many workplaces violate employees’ personal integrity and privacy by requiring them to undergo a PEth test that detects consumption of alcohol over a longer period of time and threatening them with dismissal if they refuse. Trade Union JHL demands an end to this trend.

JHL demands employers to stop applying unlawful PEth testing policies, which include both forcing employees to undergo tests and testing them in secret.

Trade Union JHL’s branch 141 sets a great example: in ten years its membership has grown from 900 to 1700.

One third of the members have an immigrant background, and about half are under 40 years old.

Last year, the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions SAK recognised the work of JHL ry 141 with an award that is given to the socially impactful union branch of the year.
