Finnish employers often offer zero-hours contracts to immigrants working in the care sector.

This is problematic because a zero-hours contract does not meet the requirements of a residence permit for an employed person.

Personal assistant Maria fears that she may be deported from Finland because she works on zero-hours contracts.

🌈 JHL participates in the Helsinki Pride Parade – march with us!

The Helsinki Pride Parade is a joyful, colourful, and loud demonstration for equality and diversity.

🌈 The parade starts at 12 noon on 27 June from the Senate Square. JHL marches in SAK’s block.

📍 JHL’s group starts gathering in front of the main building of the University of Helsinki at 11.30 am. There will be both union personnel and members.

🏳️‍🌈 We will hand out Pride material and large Pride flags for the parade at the meeting place.

☀️ Do you work in hot weather?

The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health recommends 20-minute breaks on hot days. If the strenuous work continues after the break, breaks need to be longer.

🌞 The term hot work means working in a space where the ambient air temperature exceeds +28°C. Work in a hot environment is detrimental for the worker’s health and for safe working.

Trade Union JHL reminds that hot conditions are a major occupational safety issue. Preparing for hot weather needs to be discussed in advance.

But should your employer still pay you if you are absent from work because of the emergency warning?

Your trade union JHL's position on this is clear: Yes they should. Read the instructions that explain what you should do if you lost some of your pay because of the drone threat.💸
