✨Meet Team Brillian✨

In collaboration with Brillian, Team Brillian has been exploring a question many organizations are currently struggling with: what does it actually mean to be “AI ready”? 🤖

Working at the intersection of technology, business, and human behavior, the team explored how organizations across the Nordics and beyond are navigating AI transformation — not just technically, but culturally and organizationally. ⚙️✨

Their research took them from industry interviews across Europe to parallel research journeys in London and Seoul, uncovering very different attitudes, speeds, and approaches to AI adoption. 🌍💡

Built by Henrik, Hanna, Casper, Nalle, Van (Jodie), and Artem, the team brings together perspectives from arts, business, science, and engineering — because AI transformation is never just about technology alone.

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.

Catch them live at the IDBM Impact Gala on May 22.

✨ Meet Team Kekkilä 🌱♻️

Plastic waste continues to find its way into natural ecosystems — and eventually back to us. Team Kekkilä has been exploring one part of that challenge hidden inside industrial biowaste systems. 🧪

The question sounds simple: how can plastic be removed from biowaste efficiently at an industrial scale? But the reality behind it is far more complex.

Through research, field visits, and exploration across Finland and Republic of Korea, the team investigated how waste systems, material flows, and industrial processes intersect in practice. 🌍💡

Built by Alina, Anna, Nelly, Lucienne, and Valerian, the team brings together business, chemical engineering, and design to rethink how cleaner circular systems could work in the future.

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.

✨Meet Team FICEBO aka The Control Group 🩻 📃

For the past six months, The Control Group, in collaboration with HUS and FICEBO, has been exploring the real stories behind patients’ recovery journeys. 🩺

Through conversations with researchers, clinicians, and industry experts across Oxford, London, and Amsterdam — alongside continuous prototyping, testing, and patient interviews — the team worked to turn insights into something tangible. 🩵

Built by Adil, Aneesh, Eli, Laura, Noa, and Venla, the team brings together design, engineering, and business to bridge clinical research with more human-centered recovery experiences. 🦴

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.

See it live at the IDBM Impact Gala this Friday, May 22.

✨ Meet Team Kemira 🧑‍🔬🧪

As part of their IDBM Industry Project with Kemira, the team worked on rethinking the UX and structure of Kemira’s Innovation Playbook — aiming to make innovation more intuitive, collaborative, and usable in everyday work.

Their focus: how do you make innovation tools actually work inside a large, complex organization? 🤝

To explore this, the team conducted UX research, interviews, and concept development across different contexts, refining how ideas move through structured decision-making in industry settings. 💡

They also travelled across the United Kingdom, spending time in London, Cambridge, and Edinburgh, learning from UX and innovation practices in agencies and organizations. 🌍

Built by Juho K, Ayla, Dion, Juho T, and Matilda, the team brings together design, business, and technology — along with plenty of workshops, sticky notes, and conversations about what innovation really looks like in practice. 📝☕️

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.

Catch them live at the IDBM Impact Gala on May 22.

✨ Meet Team AGI 🦒

Every second, Kenya receives large volumes of second-hand garments from the Global North, but a significant share arrives already damaged, entering the system as waste. 🗑️👖

Team AGI asked a simple question: what can be done with textile waste that already exists today? ♻️

To explore this, they travelled to Nairobi, meeting researchers, activists, importers, and traders to understand the system on the ground. 🌍💡

Their work explores material experimentation and new ways of thinking about mixed textile waste beyond disposal. 🏗️✨

Built by Enni, Caitie, Sofia, Paju, and Ilya, the team brings together chemistry, arts, business and technology.

✨ How do you design for a health challenge that often stays invisible in everyday life? ✨

Meet Team RAISIO 💚

For their IDBM Industry Project with Raisio, the team explored cardiovascular health through ecosystem strategy, prevention, and everyday behaviour. 👩🏼‍💻

To better understand how food culture and lifestyle shape health awareness, the team travelled to Amsterdam 🚲 and Athens 🌯 — exploring everything from functional foods to Mediterranean lifestyle and prevention.

Through research, stakeholder interviews, and systems thinking, Koki, Sára, Priyanka, Yueer, Sonja, and Vasilis developed concepts around workplace wellbeing and preventive health awareness. 🎗️

The project brought together perspectives from business, science, and design — combining systems thinking, research, and strategy to approach a complex public-health challenge from multiple angles. ✌🏻

💚 One key takeaway:
Prevention only becomes meaningful when it connects naturally to everyday life.

Meet ♻️ Team Syklo ♻️

Team Syklo is collaborating with Syklo, Forum Virium Helsinki, and the EU Commission TREASoURcE initiative to explore one of the most overlooked flows in circular systems: rigid plastics. 🪣

Did you know that 65% of plastics in Finland are non-packaging rigids, but only 1% are actually recycled? That leaves 5 kg of valuable raw material per person ending up in incineration every single year. 🔥

Even in advanced recycling systems, valuable materials still slip through and get incinerated. 🔥

So the team asked a simple question: what’s actually stopping households from recycling more? ♻️

They found early signals of friction — from how people understand materials to how accessible recycling systems really are. 🚛

To study advanced waste networks and automated sorting systems, the team travelled to the Republic of Korea, bringing back global insights to rethink local recycling journeys. 🌏💡

Built by Jonas, Mayu, Niko, Pinja, and Savva, the team brings together law, business, technology, and design to remove friction from urban recycling systems.

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.

Catch them live at the IDBM Impact Gala on May 22.

✨ Meet Team Forum4Edu! 📚🧑‍🏫

Somewhere between teaching, research, and the pressure for higher education to keep evolving, Team Forum4Edu started with one big question: How can academia be taken to the next level?

As part of their project, they travelled to Barcelona and Lisbon to learn from education technology conferences, speak with teachers and academic decision-makers, and understand how higher education is shifting across Europe. 👩‍🎓🎤👨‍🏫

One thing became clear: teachers are already experimenting, adapting, and trying to improve learning systems — but often in isolation.

So they began asking a deeper question: What if teachers could grow together, and actually have something to show for it? ✨

Built by Anna, Anna Sofia, Bayonle, Lino, and Ting, Team Forum4Edu brings together technology, art, design, and business — because the challenges in education are never one-dimensional.

Here’s a small behind-the-scenes glimpse into their journey before the big showcase.
