Ethio Tracing Missing Persons

The parents of our sister Hana Petros and thousands more are still missing for more than 25 years. They neither did get the chance to speak to the media. It's the most hidden tragedy. We will never forget you.

Every single tracing request is so interesting to all of us to listen, to write the story, to start the search and very important for our beneficiaries. In recent days Ethio Tracing Missing Persons received an enquiry request and we ask the support of our colleagues at the Ethiopian Red Cross (Tigray) and Beteseb Felega ቤተሰብ ፍለጋ - Ethiopian Family Search and Adoption Connection in the U.S.
We will keep you all posted on the developments. Once we got the consent story will be shared.
Happy rainy season,

Remembering the Rwandan Genocide
The Rwandan genocide, also known as the Tutsi genocide, occurred from 7 April to 19 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. Over a span of around 100 days, members of the Tutsi ethnic group, as well as some moderate Hutu and Twa, were systematically killed by Hutu militias.

While waiting for news on their loved ones, we're learning the passing of families who desperately waited in vain for ages. The message here below is for us still breathing a bit "different air" than those missing. A mother whose husband is missing in Assab put it to me that way.

In the UN Human Rights Council, I would like to introduce you a Working Group on Enforced Disappearance.
About the mandate
One of the Working Group's primary tasks is to assist families in determining the fate or whereabouts of their family members who are reportedly disappeared. In that humanitarian capacity, the Working Group serves as a channel of communication between family members of victims of enforced disappearance and other sources reporting cases of disappearances, and the Governments concerned.

To achieve this, the Group:
- receives, examines and transmits to Governments reports of enforced disappearances submitted by relatives of disappeared persons or human rights organizations acting on their behalf;
- requests Governments to carry out investigations and to inform the Working Group of the results;
- follows up those requests of information on a periodic basis;
- has a preventive role, by assisting States in overcoming obstacles to the realization of the Declaration on the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance. This is done both while carrying out country visits and by providing advisory services, when requested.
The most recent resolution renewing the mandate of the Working Group, A/HRC/RES/54/14, was adopted by the Human Rights Council in October 2023.
