The workshop, backed by regional education and women’s affairs offices, focused on cascading the “Gender-Safe School Bill”—a bold step toward ending gender-based violence (GBV) and harmful traditional practices in high schools.

🚨 Key findings from an ESD & We-Action assessment revealed:

🔹 Gaps in gender awareness

🔹 Limited parental involvement

🔹 Unsafe school environments

🔹 Lack of gender-responsive teaching

📜 A 7-point declaration to:

✅ Take a zero-tolerance stance on GBV

✅ Promote gender-inclusive classrooms

✅ Support girls’ academic progress

✅ Reintegrate crisis-affected girls into schools

✅ Advocate for reproductive health, equity, and dignity

💬 “This started as a single-school pilot,” shared Mr. Zelalem, ESD Malala Project Officer, “and is now a model proving scalable and impactful nationwide. Over 38 GBV cases and 98 early marriage cases have been addressed through this work.”
