Hiigsi Women Development Organization (HWDO) conducted a two-day capacity-building training for volunteer staff on organizational preparedness for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response and Psychosocial Support (PSS) programming in Jijiga.

The training was organized to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of volunteer staff selected from different kebeles of Karamardha Sub-City. Volunteers play an important role in connecting communities with protection and psychosocial support services, particularly for women, girls, and other vulnerable community members.

A total of 15 volunteer participants were selected from kebeles within Karamardha Sub-City. The participants were expected to use the knowledge and skills gained during the training to support community-level awareness, identification, referral, and prevention activities.

Hiigsi Women Development Organization (HWDO) successfully conducted a one-day training on mobilizing women, traditional elders, and religious leaders to promote positive social norm change in Adadle Woreda.

The training brought together 40 participants, including women, traditional elders, and religious leaders, to strengthen their understanding of harmful social norms and their role in preventing gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, and female ge***al mutilation (FGM).

The session encouraged community ownership, promoted gender equality, and developed practical commitments for participants to serve as advocates for positive behavioral and social change within their communities.

The Hiigsi Women Development Organization (HWDO), in partnership with the UGAASO Women’s Dialogue space and the international organization Conciliation Resources (CR), proudly organized the second event of the Somali Region Lead Women Excellence Awards, a program that recognizes and celebrates outstanding women leaders for their exceptional contributions to society and development in the Somali Region.

A community dialogue session aimed at strengthening the engagement of men, boys, and traditional leaders in addressing gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, and other harmful traditional practices was successfully held in Adadle Woreda.

The dialogue brought together community elders, religious leaders, youth representatives, women leaders, and local government stakeholders to discuss the important role that men and boys can play in promoting gender equality and protecting the rights of women and children.

Participants shared experiences, identified key challenges, and explored community-led solutions to prevent harmful practices and create a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.

Traditional and religious leaders reaffirmed their commitment to raising awareness and supporting positive social change within their communities.

The event highlighted that sustainable change can only be achieved through the active participation and collective responsibility of all members of society.

HWDO has previously partnered with international organizations and successfully implemented impactful projects that have contributed to community development and social transformation.

This new partnership with SOLEA further reinforces HWDO’s credibility and dedication to advancing sustainable development initiatives.

HWDO facilitated an intensive two-day capacity-building workshop on Child Protection, Case Management, and Referral Pathways in Adadle Woreda. This targeted initiative sought to enhance the competencies and expertise of community representatives, service providers, and local governance structures to safeguard the rights, welfare, and safety of children, with particular emphasis on those residing in internally displaced persons (IDP) settings, where vulnerability and risk factors are markedly heightened.

The training convened a diverse cohort of stakeholders including community representatives, women and youth group members, IDP camp leaders, as well as traditional and religious authorities, fostering a collaborative approach to child protection in the region.
