Art, Stories and Peace

Peace can be spoken, but sometimes it can also be seen, felt, and expressed through art.

Today, during the International Day of Peace celebration in Jigjiga, we had the privilege of witnessing three talented women artists create beautiful artworks right at the event. Each piece carried its own message of peace, unity, hope, and a shared future.

Watching them transform a blank space into meaningful stories was a powerful reminder that peace can take many forms. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, sometimes with a story, and sometimes with a simple act of creativity that brings people together.

We were also grateful to see CYRO recognized for its continued efforts to promote peace and create spaces where young people can share their own stories and ideas for peace.

For us, peace is not something we talk about on just one day. It is something we build every day — through our words, our stories, our creativity, and the way we connect with and support one another.

Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.

Let’s keep creating, sharing, and telling stories that bring people closer together.

Young Voices, Shared Stories, One Journey for Peace

For the past few days, Children and Youth Relief Organization (CYRO) has been part of the Young Peacebuilders Forum 2026 ( ) in Kathmandu, Nepal, bringing together young peacebuilders from more than 33 countries.

From storytelling, slam poetry and art for peace, to conversations on organisational sustainability, wellbeing, digital peacebuilding, partnerships and youth-led solutions, every day has reminded us that peacebuilding is not only about big ideas — it is also about people, relationships, care and the courage to keep going.

One of the most meaningful parts has been sharing experiences from our communities, learning from other young peacebuilders, and exploring practical ideas that can be taken back home. The mini-grant process also gave us a chance to turn our challenges and ideas into real, community-based solutions.

For CYRO, this is more than participation in an international forum. It is an opportunity to connect our local peacebuilding experience in the Somali Region of Ethiopia with a global community of young people working for peace.

We are leaving Kathmandu with new connections, new ideas and a stronger belief that when young people are trusted, supported and given space to lead, they can create real change.

A heartfelt thank you to United Network of Young Peacebuilders and everyone who made possible.

The Forum may end here, but the connections, ideas and commitment to peace continue back home.

From Conflict to Peace | The Power of Art

Children and Youth Relief Organization (CYRO) is proud to share this meaningful artwork created by Rahma Said, one of the young participants in the Fafan Zone Youth Peace Competition for Peacebuilding and Youth Integration.

The Message Behind the Art

Rahma’s artwork presents two different realities. One side reflects the pain caused by conflict, fear, displacement, and destruction, while the other represents peace, hope, safety, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

Through this powerful piece of art, Rahma reminds us that the choices we make today can shape the future of our communities.

A Message from the Artist – Rahma Said

“My artwork shows the difference between a community affected by conflict and one living in peace. I want people to understand that peace brings hope, safety, unity, and a better future. As young people, we have a responsibility to choose peace and play our part in building peaceful communities.”

At CYRO, we believe art can give young people a powerful voice to express their ideas, share their experiences, inspire others, and promote peace and social cohesion.

From darkness to light. From conflict to peace. The future we want begins with the choices we make today.
