Degraded Land Restoration & It's Sustainable Benefit
Land Degradation is the serious problem that is responsible for climate change and the resulting livelihood problems , land in the state of degradation aggravate desertification ,disease & pest outbreak , poverty and food insecurity and so on
The Cause of land degradation can be several but human inductive degradation is common ,this is because of improper use of natural resources .communities forced to misuse the natural resource mainly because of the ''No choice for Survival '' situation resulted by the Global climate change due to high emission from pollutant heavy industries worldwide . in our case climate change distort the rain pattern and the lives of all farming communities became difficult ,income from farming activities as a means of survival shift to forest & products , the increasing green house gas emission increase the ecosystem destruction and resulted in the current high degradation , green house gas emission and its impact still exist forcing the community to distract their own habitat .
currently many efforts and interventions are carried out by different bodies to restore the degraded ecosystem ,communities also well oriented about the importance of restoration ,there are many effective restoration activities implemented in many parts of Ethiopia & sub Saharan countries .
IWDO with Green Ethiopia Foundation and partners also working on Land restoration and Nature based solution for climate change mitigation and Livelihood development activities . commitment , innovativeness ,participatory ,budget efficient and community based approach are some of our tools for our success .
to make our success sustainable the visions circle of climate change ,poverty and degradation should be broken by implementing carbon credit and livelihood development activities ,we successfully restored over 1250 ha of communal and farm lands by implementing nature based solutions ,active participation of the community mainly Women's and youths , the one thing it seems challenging will be the increasing climate change and poor support for the community until they are fully enable to adapt and mitigate climate change managing the restored ecosystem.
