“Healthy Village” Project Successfully Concludes with Workshop in Bahir Dar

ORDA Ethiopia held a closing workshop for the integrated "Healthy Village Programme," which was implemented over five consecutive years (2020–2025) across two woredas (districts) in the East Gojjam Zone (Goncha Siso Enese, and Enbise Sar Midir). The project significantly contributed to reducing child stunting and waterborne diseases caused by poor sanitation.

Funded by the government and led by the Foundation, the project was primarily executed by ORDA Ethiopia in collaboration with other partners.
Key Achievements:
• Health and Sanitation Improvements: The prevalence of diarrhea among local children dropped from 28% to 7%, driven by community-led latrine construction and behavioral change education.
• Clean Water Supply: New water facilities were constructed, and existing ones were rehabilitated, benefiting communities living in challenging terrains.
• Nutrition and Job Creation: Nutritional support ("Mitin") was provided to pregnant and lactating mothers, alongside the promotion of year-round vegetable production and modern agricultural technologies. Additionally, youth and women's entrepreneurship was supported through the establishment of Village Economic and Social Associations (VESA).
የ«ጤናማ መንደር» ፕሮጀክት የማጠናቀቂያ ወርክሾፕ በባሕርዳር ከተማ ተካሄደ፡፡
አመልድ ኢትዮጵያ በምሥራቅ ጎጃም ዞን በሁለት ወረዳዎች ለ5 ዓመታት (2020–2025) ሲተገብር የቆየውን የ«ጤናማ መንደር ፕሮግራም» (Healthy Village Programme) የማጠናቀቂያ ወርክሾፕ አካሄደ። በኔዘርላንድስ መንግሥት የገንዘብ ድጋፍ እና በማክስ ፋውንዴሽን መሪነት የተከናወነው ይህ ፕሮጀክት፣ በሕፃናት ላይ የሚከሰተውን መቀጨጭ እና የንጽሕና ጉድለት በሽታዎችን ለመቀነስ ከፍተኛ አስተዋጽኦ አድርጓል።
ዋና ዋና ስኬቶች፦
• የጤና መሻሻል፦ በሕፃናት ላይ ይከሰት የነበረው የተቅማጥ በሽታ ምጣኔ ከ28% ወደ 7% ዝቅ ብሏል።
• የንጹሕ ውሃ አቅርቦት፦ በአስቸጋሪ መልክዓ-ምድር ለሚኖሩ ማኅበረሰቦች አዳዲስ የውሃ ተቋማት ተገንብተዋል፤ ነባሮቹም ተጠግነዋል።
• ሥርዓተ-ምግብ እና የሥራ ፈጠራ፦ ለእናቶች የተመጣጠነ ምግብ አቅርቦትና የግብርና ቴክኖሎጂዎች የተስፋፉ ሲሆን፣ በገጠር የመንድር ማህበራዊ ቁጠባና ብድር ማኅበራት (VESA) አማካኝነት የወጣቶችና የሴቶች የሥራ ፈጠራ ተደግፏል።
ይህ ስኬታማ ተሞክሮ በጤና ጥበቃ ሚኒስቴር አማካኝነት በአገር አቀፍ ደረጃ ጥቅም ላይ ይውላል ተብሏል። «ከሥርዓተ-ምግብ እጥረት የጸዳ ሰጤናማ መንደር» ፍኖተ-ካርታ እንደ ዋና መነሻ ሆኖ እንዲያገለግል መደረጉ ታውቋል።

Through ORDA Ethiopia’s Adey Project, unemployed youth in targeted kebeles have received financial support, life skills, and vocational training.

🌍 ORDA Ethiopia & CFN: Protecting Church Forests With support from Cartier for Nature, ORDA Ethiopia has advanced the Church Forest Initiative to restore landscapes and safeguard biodiversity in Amhara.
🛡️ Since Feb 2022, conservation walls have been built for 17 churches, protecting over 138 hectares of forest. 📍 Latest progress includes Abiro Silassie (9.4 ha) and Oema Mariam (5.2 ha) in Dera Woreda.
Together, we’re conserving heritage forests and securing sustainable livelihoods. 🌱✨

‎በአመልድ ኢትዮጵያ እና በአሜሪካ መንግሥት (BHA) የተገነባው የጃናሞራ ወረዳ የንፁህ መጠጥ ውሃ ፕሮጀክት ተመረቀ
ጃናሞራ፣ ሰሜን ጎንደር — በጃናሞራ ወረዳ ለዓመታት የነበረውን የንፁህ መጠጥ ውሃ እጥረት በዘላቂነት ለመቅረፍ የተገነባው ታላቅ የውሃ ፕሮጀክት ግንቦት 16 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም በታላቅ ስነ-ስርዓት ተመርቆ ለአገልግሎት ክፍት ሆኗል። ፕሮጀክቱ በአሜሪካ መንግሥት የሰብአዊ እርዳታ ቢሮ (USAID/BHA) በገንዘብ የተደገፈ ሲሆን፣ በአመልድ ኢትዮጵያ አስፈጻሚነት የተገነባ ነው።
በጃናሞራ ወረዳ፣ በክልል ቀበሌ፣ መሀሪ ጎጥ የተገነባው ይህ የውሃ ፕሮጀክት፤ በተለይም በአካባቢው አስቸጋሪ መልክዓ ምድር ምክንያት ውሃ ለመቅዳት ከፍተኛ ውጣ ውረድና እንግልት ይደርስባቸው ለነበሩት ሴቶችና የአካል ጉዳተኞች ትልቅ እፎይታን ይዟል።
የቀበሌው ነዋሪዎች በሰጡት አስተያየት፣ ቀደም ሲል ንፁህ ውሃ ለማግኘት ረጅም ርቀት መጓዝ ይጠይቃቸው እንደነበር አስታውሰው፣ አሁን ግን በአመልድ ኢትዮጵያ አማካኝነት ችግራቸው ታሪክ መሆኑን በደስታ ገልጸዋል።
ይህን ግዙፍ የውሃ ፕሮጀክት እውን ለማድረግ የአካባቢው ማህበረሰብ አስቸጋሪውን ተራራማ መልክዓ ምድር በመቋቋም ቁሳቁሶችን በማጓጓዝ ረገድ ከፍተኛ ተሳትፎ አድርጓል። የፕሮጀክቱ ዋና ዋና ሥራዎች የሚከተሉትን ያካትታሉ፦
•የመስመር ዝርጋታ፦ 8.8 ኪሎ ሜትር ርዝመት ያለው የውሃ ቧንቧ መስመር።
•የውሃ ታንከር፦ 50 ሺህ ሊትር ውሃ መያዝ የሚችል ትልቅ ጋን።
•መቆጣጠሪያዎች፦ 3 የውሃ ማብረጃዎች (ብሬከሮች) እና 3 ሲንግል ፎሴቶች።
•የማከፋፈያ ቦኖዎች፦ 7 የህዝብ የውሃ ማከፋፈያ ቦኖዎች።
•ተጠቃሚዎች፦ ከ350 በላይ አባወራዎችንና እማወራዎችን (ቤተሰቦችን) የንፁህ መጠጥ ውሃ ባለቤት አድርጓል።
አመልድ ኢትዮጵያ በወረዳው በቆየባቸው ጥቂት ዓመታት ውስጥ በርካታ ሰው ተኮር እና ልማታዊ ተግባራትን በማከናወን የህዝብን ተጠቃሚነት እያረጋገጠ የሚገኝ ስብዓዊ ድርጅት መሆኑን በተግባር አስመስክሯል።

ORDA Ethiopia, with support from the U.S. Government (BHA), built and inaugurated the Janamora Woreda Clean Drinking Water Project.
Janamora, North Gondar — A major water project built to permanently address the long-standing shortage of clean drinking water in the Janamora woreda was officially inaugurated and opened for service in a grand ceremony on May 24, 2026. The project was funded by the United States Agency for International Development's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (US/BHA) and implemented by ORDA Ethiopia.
Built in Mehari-Got, Kelel Kebele within the Janamora woreda, this water project brings immense relief—especially to women and people with disabilities who previously faced severe hardships and exhaustion fetching water due to the area's challenging rugged terrain.
Reflecting on the development, local residents recalled that accessing clean water used to require traveling long distances. They expressed their joy, noting that thanks to ORDA Ethiopia, their struggles are now history.
To make this massive water project a reality, the local community participated extensively by overcoming the difficult mountainous landscape to transport construction materials. The main components of the project include:
•Pipeline Installation: An 8.8-kilometer-long water pipeline network.
•Water Tank: A large reservoir capable of holding 50,000 liters of water.
•Controls: 3 pressure breaker tanks and 3 single faucets.
•Distribution Points: 7 public water distribution points (water points/bonos).
•Beneficiaries: Provides clean drinking water access to more than 350 households.
Over the few years ORDA Ethiopia has operated in the woreda, it has practically demonstrated its commitment to ensuring community benefit by executing numerous people-centered and developmental initiatives. Thank you .S. Government (BHA) for your support in making a reality.

“She doesn’t wait for me—she is the manager.” Felegush’s husband

Felegush Aynie Mengist, a young entrepreneur from Banja Woreda, on the journey to her future through apiculture. With support from the MaYEA program implemented by Bees for Development Ethiopia in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and led by ORDA Ethiopia, she expanded her beekeeping business from 15 to 75 colonies and generated 189,000 ETB in honey sales within one season.

“Before this support, I practiced traditional beekeeping with limited benefits. Now I have improved my skills, expanded my colonies, and increased my income. I am confident in growing my business,” says Felegush.

ORDA Ethiopia and CBM Hand over Multi-Sectoral Project in Afar Region, Held Closing Workshop
On May 29, 2026, ORDA Ethiopia, in collaboration with and consortium partners ( , , and ), held a project closing and handover workshop in Semera Town.
This platform marked the successful completion of the AID 12669 Project, a multi-sectoral initiative that has been transforming lives in Chifra Woreda since February 2024.
The closing and handover ceremony was attended by Afar Regional Bureau officials, Chifra Woreda sector office heads, ORDA Ethiopia’s Deputy Executive Director, Ato Tsehay Asmare, and CBM representative, Ato Samuel Bekele.
Following the field observations conducted May 28, 2026, stakeholders reviewed the achievements recorded in health, nutrition, education, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and livelihood improvement. The project left a sustainable impact by prioritizing women, children, and persons with disabilities, achieving the following major milestones:
• Disability Inclusion and Gender Equality: Successfully established local disability associations, provided assistive devices, improved responses to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and empowered women.
• Livelihood Improvement and Resilience: Boosted income-generating activities by mobilizing Village Economic and Savings Associations (VESA), which strengthened community capacity and local institutions.
The closing workshop concluded by setting a future direction to ensure the sustainability of these interventions, with partner organizations reaffirming their commitment to supporting vulnerable communities within the woreda. Thank you & for your support in making inclusion a reality. 🌍💪

ግንቦት 21 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም አመልድ ኢትዮጵያ፣ ከሲ.ቢ.ኤም እና ከኮንሰርቲየም አጋሮቹ (LVIA፣ COOPI እና MCMDO) ጋር በመሆን በሠመራ ከተማ የፕሮጀክት መዝጊያና የማስረከቢያ አውደ ጥናት አካሂደዋል።
ይህ መድረክ ከየካቲት ወር 2016 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ በጭፍራ ወረዳ የማኅበረሰቡን ሕይወት ሲለውጥ የቆየውና ዘርፈ ብዙ ዘርፎችን ያቀፈው የ AID 12669 ፕሮጀክት በተሳካ ሁኔታ መጠናቀቁን ያበሰረ ነው።
የመዝጊያ እና የማስረከቢያ ሥነ-ሥርዓቱ በአፋር ክልል ቢሮ ኃላፊዎች፣ በጭፍራ ወረዳ ሴክተር መሥሪያ ቤት ኃላፊዎች፣ የአመልድ ኢትዮጵያ ምክትል ዋና ዳይሬክተር አቶ ፀሐይ አስማረ እንዲሁም የሲ.ቢ.ኤም ተወካይ አቶ ሳሙኤል በቀለ በተገኙበት ተከናውኗል።

• አካል ጉዳተኞችን አካታች ማድረግ እና የሥርዓተ ጾታ እኩልነት፦ በአካባቢው የአካል ጉዳተኞች ማኅበራትን ማቋቋም፣ የድጋፍ መርጃ መሣሪያዎችን ማቅረብ፣ በጾታ ላይ የተመሰረቱ ጥቃቶች ምላሽ አሰጣጥን ማሻሻል እና የሴቶችን አቅም ማብቃት ተችሏል።
• የኑሮ ማሻሻል እና የመቋቋም አቅም፦ የመንደር ቁጠባና ብድር ማኅበራትን (VESA) በማንቀሳቀስ የገቢ ማስገኛ ሥራዎችን ማሳደግ የተቻለ ሲሆን፣ ይህም የማኅበረሰብ አቅም እና የአካባቢ ተቋማትን አጠናክሯል።

አመልድ ኢትዮጵያ እና ሲ.ቢ.ኤም ኢንተርናሽናል በጭፍራ ወረዳ አካታች የልማት ፕሮጀክቶችን አጠናቀው አስረከቡ፡፡
ጭፍራ፣ አፋር – አመልድ ኢትዮጵያ (ORDA Ethiopia) ከሲ.ቢ.ኤም ኢንተርናሽናል (CBM International) ጋር በመተባበር እና ከጣሊያን የልማት ትብብር ኤጀንሲ (AICS) በተገኘ የገንዘብ ድጋፍ በጭፍራ ወረዳ እና በዋኣማ ቀበሌ ከ11 ሚሊዮን ብር በላይ ወጪ የተደረገባቸውን ሶስት የማህበረሰብ ማጎልበቻ ፕሮጀክቶች ግንቦት 20 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም በይፋ መርቀዋል።
በ2017 ዓ.ም (እ.ኤ.አ በ2025) የተጀመሩት እነዚህ ፕሮጀክቶች የተገነቡት በ‹‹የሥርዓተ-ጾታና የአካል ጉዳተኞች አካታች ፕሮጀክት›› ሥር ሲሆን፣ አላማቸውም በአካባቢው የሚገኙ ተጋላጭ የሆኑ የማህበረሰብ ክፍሎችን የምጣኔ ሀብት ራሳቸውን መቻል፣ የሥርዓተ-ጾታ እኩልነትን እና ተቋማዊ አቅምን ማሳደግ ነው።
በምረቃው ሥነ-ስርዓት ላይ የጎሳ መሪዎች፣ የሃይማኖት አባቶች፣ የአፋር ብሔራዊ ክልላዊ መንግሠት የቢሮ አመራሮች፣ የጭፍራ ወረዳ ም/ዋና አስተዳዳሪ አቶ ሙሃመድ ሱሩር፣ የአመልድ ኢትዮጵያ ምክትል ዋና ዳይሬክተር አቶ ፀሐይ አስማረ እና የሲ.ቢ.ኤም ተወካይ አቶ ሣሙኤል በቀለ (CBM) ተገኝተዋል።
ለማኅበረሰቡ ተረክበው ሥራ የጀመሩት ሦስቱ ዋና ዋና ንዑሳን ፕሮጀክቶች የሚከተሉት ናቸው፦
• የአካል ጉዳተኞች ቢሮ ህንጻ፡ ባለ አንድ ብሎክ ጥራቱን የጠበቀና 3 ክፍሎች ያሉት የአስተዳደር ህንጻ ሲሆን፣ ሁለት አካታች የመጸዳጃ ክፍሎች እና የተሟላ የመታጠቢያ ክፍል ይዟል። በተጨማሪም የቢሮ እቃዎች፣ ደስክቶፕ ኮምፒውተሮች፣ ፕሪንተር፣ የኤሲ (የሙቀት መቆጣጠሪያ) እና የውሃ ማጠራቀሚያ ጋኖች ከፓምፕ ጋር የተሟሉለት ነው።
• የገቢ ማስገኛ ሱቅ መሸጫ ኮንቴነር፡ በአካባቢው የሚገኙ አካል ጉዳተኞች የኢኮኖሚ ነፃነታቸውን እንዲያረጋግጡ ታስቦ የተገነባ ባለ ሁለት ክፍል ዘመናዊ የሱቅ መሸጫ ኮንቴነር ነው። ፕሮጀክቱ ፍሪጅ እና ለመነሻ ካፒታል የሚሆኑ ልዩ ልዩ የጽህፈት መሳሪያዎችና የሸቀጣሸቀጥ ቁሳቁሶችን ያካተተ ነው።
• የሴቶች ወፍጮ ቤት (በዋኣማ ቀበሌ)፦ የአካባቢውን ሴቶች አቅም ለመገንባት የተሠራ ባለ 3 ክፍል የሰብል ማቀነባበሪያ ወፍጮ ቤት ነው። የበርበሬ እና የጥራጥሬ መፍጫ ማሽኖች፣ አጥርና የጥበቃ ቤት እንዲሁም የ37 ኪሎ ዋት የኤሌክትሪክ መስመር ዝርጋታ ተካቶለታል። ለሴቶቹ ማህበር የመነሻ ግብዓት የሚሆኑ እንደ በርበሬና በቆሎ ያሉ ቁሳቁሶች ድጋፍ ተደርጓል።

ORDA Ethiopia & CBM Hand Over Inclusive Development Projects in Chifra Woreda
CHIFRA, AFAR – ORDA Ethiopia, in partnership with CBM and with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), has officially handed over three inclusive community empowerment projects worth more than 11 million Birr in Chifra Woreda and Wa’ama Kebele.
Implemented under the Gender and Disability Inclusive Project, these initiatives aim to strengthen economic self-reliance, gender equality, and institutional capacity for vulnerable groups in the Afar Region.
The handover ceremony was attended by clan elders, religious leaders, Afar Regional Bureau officials, the Chief Administrator of Chifra Woreda, Ato Muhamed Surur, ORDA Ethiopia’s Deputy Excutive Director, Ato Tsehay Asmare, and representatives from CBM.
Projects Delivered to the Community:
Women’s Cooperative Grain Mill (Wa’ama Kebele): A three-room agro-processing facility equipped with milling machinery for chili peppers and grains, perimeter fencing, a security outpost, and a 37 kW electricity supply. The cooperative also received startup raw materials to boost women’s economic participation.
Office Facility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs): A modern administrative building with three offices, disability-inclusive restrooms, climate-controlled spaces, office furniture, printers, desktops, and a water system with backup storage.
Income-Generating Container Shop: A two-room retail facility designed to promote financial independence for persons with disabilities, complete with refrigeration, startup capital, and stocked commodities.
These projects symbolize a strong commitment to inclusive development and empowerment, ensuring women and persons with disabilities have the tools to build resilient livelihoods.
