Camara Education Ethiopia's objective is to contribute to the advancement of the national education system in Ethiopia by improving access to Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) by students and teachers. ICT has been identified as a key driver of educational improvement across the world, and Camara Ethiopia supports this objective by enabling and supporting schools to set up e-learning centres, tra
ining teachers in ICT literacy and the use of ICT in education, providing educational software and content and through the maintenance and ultimate recycling of equipment. To this effect, Camara is currently working with the Regional Education Bureaus of the regions of Addis Ababa, Amhara, Afar, Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz – and will serve all regions over the lifespan of its Project Agreement with the Ministry of Education. Over the past two years, Camara Ethiopia has trained over 1,500 teachers and supplied 6,000 computers to 300 schools. Camara Ethiopia is part-funded by the Government of Ethiopia through Regional Education Bureaus, with subsidies provided by Camara Education, and the schools receive the following services:
- Training of a minimum of 5 teachers per school on the following courses:
- Camara's ICT Skill Builder (5 days)
- eLearning Centre Management for School IT Teachers (5 days)
- Intel ® Teach Getting Started (5 days)
- Headteacher workshops on Intel ® Elements: Educational Leadership in the 21st Century (2 days)
- E-Learning centre set up support and advice
- Vetting of the e-learning centre
- Twenty Five (25) Computers (including one (1) server computer)
- Huge amounts of educational content and software, including Ethiopia specific material and the RACHEL repository
- Maintenance for 12 months
- Monitoring and evaluation visits
- End-of-life recycling for computers
Camara works and collaborates with a range of Ethiopian and international organisations to support schools and educational projects across Ethiopia.
