Towards Empowerment and Self-Reliance: Active Participation in the Joint Field Visit to Kebri Beyah Refugee Settlement 🌐🤝💼

As part of efforts to strengthen humanitarian partnerships and enhance the participation of refugee-led organizations in decision-making processes, Tomorrow is Better RLO’s Founder and CEO, Ms. Ebtisam Khalid, participated on September 8, 2026, in a joint field visit to the Kebri Beyah refugee settlement in the Somali Region. The visit was conducted as part of the AFD Joint Reconnaissance Mission, with the participation of government authorities, organizations, and partners working in the area.

Key Areas and Objectives of the Field Visit

🎯 Assessing Needs and Priorities
The visit provided an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the realities and needs of refugees and the host community, explore opportunities for economic empowerment, livelihoods, and self-reliance, and strengthen coordination mechanisms among relevant stakeholders.

👥 Consultative Meetings
The mission included productive consultations with government representatives, refugees, members of the host community, and key partners working in the area.

💼 Supporting Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods
The delegation visited several refugee-owned businesses and host-community enterprises to learn from the experiences of business owners, better understand the challenges they face, and identify opportunities to strengthen and expand their businesses.

تضمنت الجولة زيارة عدد من المشاريع المملوكة للاجئين والمشاريع التجارية للمجتمع المضيف، للاطلاع على تجارب أصحاب الأعمال والوقوف على التحديات والفرص المتاحة لتطوير مشاريعهم.

From Consultation to the Field: Serious Steps and Strategic Vision for Refugee Protection in Arba Minch 🌐⚖️🤝

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening humanitarian partnerships and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, our organization Tomorrow is Better RLO—represented by our Founder and CEO, Ms. Ebtisam Khalid—participated in the extensive consultative meetings organized by the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) from September 3 to 4, 2026, in the city of Arba Minch, to address the phenomenon of irregular movements of refugees and asylum seekers toward third countries through southern Ethiopia.

Field and Institutional Milestones:

🌐 Strategic Consultation Milestone (September 3–4, 2026):

The forum was based on human rights monitoring activities conducted by the EHRC in police stations across the South Omo Zone. In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Dr. Mizane Abate, emphasized the importance of building a shared vision and developing practical, sustainable solutions based on field findings and recommendations, with the broad participation of law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders.

During the meeting sessions, Founder and CEO Ms. Ebtisam Khalid presented strategic insights and proposals aimed at expanding community awareness and exploring ways to establish an integrated system linking relevant authorities to facilitate sustainable and effective solutions.

📍 Field Monitoring Milestone:
Following the consultative meetings, our Founder and CEO, Ms. Ebtisam Khalid, conducted a field visit to the South Ethiopia R/S Police Commission at the Arba Minch Town Administration Police Department. The visit aimed to inspect the conditions of unregistered asylum seekers who were detained during irregular crossing attempts and to closely review their humanitarian situation.

🌐 محطة التشاور الإستراتيجي (3 - 4 سبتمبر 2026):
استند المنتدى إلى أعمال رصد مفوضية حقوق الإنسان (EHRC) التي نفذتها في أقسام الشرطة بمنطقة أومو الجنوبية (South Omo Zone).
وفي الكلمة الافتتاحية، أكد نائب المفوض العام لمفوضية حقوق الإنسان الإثيوبية، د. ميزان أباتي (Dr. Mizane Abate)، على أهمية بناء رؤية مشتركة والخروج بحلول عملية ومستدامة استناداً إلى النتائج والتوصيات الميدانية، بمشاركة واسعة لجهات إنفاذ القانون والجهات ذات الصلة.

خلال جلسات الاجتماع، شاركت المؤسسة والمديرة التنفيذية السيدة إبتسام خالد بطرح رؤى واقترحات استراتيجية هادفة إلى توسيع نطاق التوعية المجتمعية، وبحث سبل تأسيس نظام تكاملي يربط بين الجهات المختصة لتسهيل خلق حلول مستدامة وفعالة.

As part of our ongoing dedication to developing our team's capacities and qualifying them according to the highest humanitarian standards, the team of our organization (Tomorrow Is Better RLO) actively participated in a specialized training workshop

🌐 2026 Mid-Year Monitoring and Evaluation Meeting for Partner Organizations

Driven by our firm commitment to improving service quality and enhancing the role of local leadership, our organization
(Tomorrow Is Better RLO) actively participated in the

2026 Mid-Year M&E Meeting & Field Mission, held at the Harmony Hotel from August 26 to 28, 2026.

Here is a summary of the key highlights from these events:

🔹 Day 1 (August 26): Opening Session
The launch featured detailed presentations on the achievements of refugee-led organizations, followed by open panel discussions and specialized workshops for planning and coordinating future work.

🔹 Day 2 (August 27): Field Visits (Working Teams)
In implementation of the joint field plans between RRS, UNHCR, and partners, the field teams split into three main groups to visit organizations, interview beneficiaries, verify activities, and document on-the-ground progress:

Team 1:
Visited entities associated with INKOMOKO, Mercy Corps, REDSS, and RRS, with the participation of representatives from operational partners, UNHCR, RRS, and refugee representatives.

Team 2:
Visited entities associated with DICAC, Ethio Friends, and Kepler, with the participation of representatives from operational partners, Anteneh Gorfu from UNHCR, RRS, and refugee representatives.

Team 3:
Visited entities associated with JRS, TIB, and BoWCSA, with the participation of Edom Akililu and Million Niguse from operational partners, UNHCR, RRS, and refugee representatives.

🔹 Day 3 (August 28): Presentation of Results and Recommendations
A closing session was held to present the findings of the field visits, discuss observations and gaps, outline key points, and agree on future action plans and final recommendations.

تنفيذاً للخطط الميدانية المشتركة بين (RRS، UNHCR) والشركاء، انقسمت فرق العمل الميدانية إلى ثلاث مجموعات رئيسية لزيارة المنظمات، إجراء مقابلات مع المستفيدين، التحقق من الأنشطة، وتوثيق التقدم المحرز على أرض الواقع:

المجموعة الأولى (Team 1):
زارت الجهات المرتبطة بشركاء (INKOMOKO و Mercy Corps)

و REDSS و RRS، وبمشاركة ممثلين عن شركاء العمل، UNHCR، RRS، وممثلي اللاجئين).

المجموعة الثانية (Team 2):
زارت الجهات المرتبطة بشركاء ( DICAC و Ethio Friends و Kepler DICAC، وبمشاركة ممثلين عن شركاء العمل، Anteneh Gorfu من UNHCR، وRRS وممثلي اللاجئين).

Empowering Our Team and Reinforcing Principles of Protection and Transparency 🛡️✨

As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our team's skills and elevating the quality of our community services, our organization hosted a specialized training session for our staff yesterday at our headquarters.

The session was led by Ms. Sumaya Ahmed, Child Protection Officer and PSEA Focal Point at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The training focused on key core areas, including:

🔹 Prevention of Exploitation and Abuse of Power: Emphasizing transparent service delivery and combating any practices related to exchanging services for exploitation.

🔹 Strengthening Reporting and Complaint Mechanisms: Understanding safe and effective ways to file complaints and prevent all forms of corruption.

🔹 Professional Case Management: Learning how to properly support and assist affected individuals in accordance with the highest humanitarian standards.

This milestone reflects our unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest levels of credibility, protecting everyone's rights, and ensuring a safe, fair work environment both within our organization and across our field operations.

في إطار السعي المستمر لتطوير مهارات كادرنا ورفع كفاءة الخدمات المقدمة للمجتمع، نظمت منظمتنا يوم أمس في مقرها الرئيسي دورة تدريبية متخصصة لفريق العمل، قدمتها الأستاذة سمية أحمد (Sumaya Ahmed)، مسؤولة حماية الطفل ومسؤولة مكافحة الاستغلال والانتهاكات (PSEA) في مفوضية الأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين (UNHCR).

تناول التدريب محاور أساسية تهدف إلى:

🔹 الوقاية من الاستغلال وسوء استخدام السلطة: التأكيد على تقديم الخدمات بشفافية تامة ومكافحة أي ممارسات تندرج تحت الاستغلال مقابل الخدمة.

🔹 تعزيز آليات الإبلاغ والشكاوى: التعرف على الطرق الآمنة والفعالة لتقديم الشكاوى وتجنب الفساد بجميع أشكاله.

🔹 التعامل الاحترافي مع الحالات: كيفية مساندة وتقديم الدعم اللازم للأفراد والتعامل مع الحالات المتأثرة وفق أعلى المعايير الإنسانية.
إن هذه الخطوة تؤكد التزامنا التام بالحفاظ على أعلى مستويات المصداقية، وحماية حقوق الجميع، وضمان بيئة عمل آمنة وعادلة، سواء داخل المنظمة أو في مجالات عملنا الميداني.

A Promising Start Toward Activating Community Sports and Expanding Participation 🏆⚽

As a serious step to reinforce the role of sports as an effective tool for integration and development, our team held its first coordination meeting last Friday with representatives of refugee sports teams, aiming to lay solid foundations for launching and organizing upcoming sports events and tournaments.

The meeting featured fruitful discussions focused on:

🔹 Structuring Regulatory Frameworks: Establishing clear working mechanisms to ensure the sustainability and success of sports activities.

🔹 Strategic Planning: Reviewing future plans and expanding the base of community participation.

🔹 Overcoming Challenges: Examining logistical and field challenges and developing practical solutions to overcome them efficiently.

انطلاقة واعدة نحو تفعيل الرياضة المجتمعية وتوسيع آفاق المشاركة 🏆⚽

في خطوة جادة لتعزيز دور الرياضة كأداة فعالة للدمج والتنمية، عقد فريقنا يوم الجمعة الماضي الاجتماع التنسيقي الأول مع ممثلي الفرق الرياضية التابعة للاجئين، بهدف وضع أسس متينة لإطلاق وتنظيم الفعاليات والبطولات الرياضية القادمة.

شهد الاجتماع نقاشات مثمرة تركزت على:

🔹 هيكلة الأطر التنظيمية: وضع آليات عمل واضحة تضمن استدامة ونجاح الأنشطة الرياضية.

🔹 التخطيط الاستراتيجي: استعراض الخطط المستقبلية وتوسيع قاعدة المشاركة المجتمعية.

🔹 التغلب على التحديات: دراسة التحديات اللوجستية والميدانية ووضع حلول عملية لتجاوزها بكفاءة.

إننا نؤمن بأن الرياضة مساحة للتمكين وبناء الجسور، ونشكر كافة الحضور على نقاشاتهم البناءة وحماسهم الحقيقي. ترقبوا قريباً أولى ثمار هذا التعاون المشترك على أرض الواقع!

💡 Enhancing institutional capacities and elevating organizations' efficiency in grant proposal writing and resource mobilization.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to ReDSS for their kind invitation to participate in this specialized training workshop.

The workshop sessions focused on core pillars for developing humanitarian and developmental work, most notably:

🌐 Funding Ecosystem and Donor Diversification: Reviewing the general landscape of resource mobilization, understanding the priorities of various donors, and navigating compliance and risk management requirements.

🔍 Strategic Research and Analysis: Learning effective methods for conducting donor research and accurately analyzing calls for proposals to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

📝 Problem Formulation and Logical Framework (LogFrame): Building compelling, evidence-backed problem statements and utilizing logical frameworks and theories of change to plan projects and measure their sustainable impact.

🎯 SMART Objectives Formulation: Ensuring objectives are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound for highly efficient project ex*****on.

💡 نحو تعزيز القدرات المؤسسية ورفع كفاءة المنظمات في كتابة مقترحات المنح وتعبئة الموارد..

نتقدم بخالص الشكر والتقدير لمنظمة ReDSS على دعوتهم الكريمة لنا للمشاركة في الورشة التدريبية المتخصصة.

ركزت جلسات الورشة على محاور جوهرية لتطوير العمل التنموي والإنساني، أبرزها:

🌐 النظام البيئي للتمويل وتنوع المانحين: استعراض المشهد العام لتعبئة الموارد وفهم أولويات مختلف الجهات المانحة ومتطلبات الامتثال وإدارة المخاطر.

🔍 البحث والتحليل الاستراتيجي: تعلم أساليب إجراء أبحاث فعالة عن المانحين وتحليل دعوات تقديم المقترحات بدقة لضمان مطابقة أهداف المنظمة.

📝 صياغة المشكلات وإطار العمل المنطقي (LogFrame): بناء بيانات مشكلة مقنعة مدعومة بالأدلة، وتوظيف الإطار المنطقي ونظرية التغيير لتخطيط المشاريع وقياس أثرها المستدام.

🎯 صياغة الأهداف وفق إطار SMART: ضمان أن تكون الأهداف محددة، قابلة للقياس، واقعية، ذات صلة، ومحددة زمنياً لتنفيذ المشاريع بكفاءة عالية.
