๐ From Sleeping on the Streets to Building a Future: Solomon's Journey of Hope
Just a few years ago, Solomon Bezabih had no place to call home, no steady meal, and little reason to believe that tomorrow would be any different from today.
After leaving Dessie in search of a better life at 21, he spent two long years surviving on the streets of Addis Ababa. Hunger became his constant companion. His loyal dog was often his only friend. He depended on spare coins from strangers for food, and faced the loneliness, uncertainty, and hardship that come with life on the streets.
For Solomon hope seemed distant but his story did not end there.
When Solomon joined Siddhartha Development Ethiopia's rehabilitation program, he was given something he had not felt in a long time: HOPE.
The program offered more than a shelter. He was given a second chance. Through counseling, life-skills training, education, and vocational skill training in wood and metalwork, Solomon slowly began to believe in himself again and rediscover his worth.
With determination and hard work, he returned to school through evening classes, excelled in his studies, and discovered a talent for craftsmanship. What started as training became a passion and a pathway to a new life. He eventually graduated with distinction, becoming one of the program's most outstanding trainees.
The journey was not always easy. There were setbacks and challenges along the way. But with counseling, peer support, and his own determination, Solomon refused to give up.
Today, Solomon lives independently in a rented room near Kaliti. He works on City Corridor Development Projects earning 1,800 birr daily. A stable income that allows him to pay his rent, meet his daily needs, and plan for the future.
For the first time in years, he enjoys something many of us take for granted: a safe place to sleep, regular meals, and the peace of knowing where he belongs. When Solomon meets children in street situation, he doesn't look away- he stops and whispers "SDE has changed my life, it can change yours too ."
Looking back on his journey, Solomon says: "SDE has changed my life in ways i never thought possible."
His story reminds us that no one is defined by circumstances. With opportunity, support, and belief, lives can be transformed, dreams can be restored, and futures can be rebuilt.
