Day 1 of the 5th CSO Week — and the energy is inspiring.
Today, New Bright Community Development Center (NBCDC) proudly joined over 100 civil society organizations at the Addis Ababa International Convention Center to showcase the power of community-led change.
From girls learning to code, to female factory workers standing up for their labor rights, to young people gaining life and digital skills, every initiative we implement is about one thing: expanding opportunity.
CSO Week reminds us that real impact happens when organizations connect, collaborate, and learn from each other.

Adwa was not just a victory. It was a statement. “We will not be left behind. Today, 130 years later, that spirit lives on, not on a battlefield… but in a classroom.
At the historic Battle of Adwa, Ethiopia defeated colonial forces with unity and courage.
This time, Grade 7 & 8 girls defeated something else: the belief that technology is not for them.
Through Guzo-Tech: A Girl’s Journey into Code, they:
💻 Built real websites solving community problems.
🎮 Designed educational games with social impact.
🚀 Turned curiosity into innovation.
One quiet student who once said, “I’m not good with computers,” now confidently presents her own website.
That is victory. Adwa defended sovereignty. These girls are claiming digital sovereignty.
Different era. Different battlefield. Same courage.
At New Bright Community Development Center, we believe when a girl learns to code, she doesn’t just change her future — she changes the narrative.
The next victory is digital. And our girls are leading it.

🌟 Stronger Labor Unions, Stronger Voices! 🌟
We are thrilled to announce a big achievement from our LRFFW project! Despite initial challenges, we successfully established 4 new labor unions and strengthened 1 existing union in our partner factories. 💪🏾🤝
We also delivered a 2-day training for union leaders and factory management on:
Labor rights
The role and value of labor unions
Tools and techniques for developing effective bylaws

We are especially proud to see more women stepping into leadership roles a powerful sign of progress and empowerment! 👩🏾🏭✨

“A Moment of Honor, Reflection, and Purpose”

I am deeply honored to have served as a panelist at the EU CSF+ Learning and Experience Sharing Workshop, organized by ACSO in collaboration with WHH, DEC, and CoSAP. Sharing the platform with Her Excellency Ambassador Tadelech Hailemichael and other inspiring leaders was a moment of great pride.

During the panel discussion “Voice of Women: The Role of Women CSO Leaders in Organizational Transformation and Mainstreaming a Rights-Based Approach” I was grateful for the opportunity to share NBCDC’s nine-year journey, our leadership values, and how we have integrated a rights-based approach across all programs.

✨ Proud Achievement: Our project, Labour Rights of Female Factory Workers in Asella Town, was recognized as a best practice and featured in a publication for its meaningful impact on young women workers.

My sincere appreciation goes to the EU, WHH, DEC, and CoSAP for their financial and technical support. We remain committed to strengthening our work, advancing dignity, and expanding opportunities for women and youth.

A proud moment for us in Asella! 🌿✨

Last week, we celebrated a major milestone of the Labor Rights of Female Factory Workers Project — completing our mid-term evaluation and inaugurating two Safe Spaces for women working in local factories.

These spaces now offer legal advice, psychosocial support, and SRH services, but most importantly, they give women a safe place to learn, share, and grow. 💪

We’re deeply grateful to our donors, government partners, factory management, and amazing volunteers whose commitment is making workplaces safer and more empowering for women. ❤️

Every girl deserves the chance to dream beyond limits.
Today, we celebrate a major milestone the signing of a project agreement with CUSO International for Guzo-Tech: A Girl’s Journey to Coding.

This project will equip girls with essential coding and digital skills, empower female educators, and open pathways into STEAM fields where women are still underrepresented.

This is not just a project it’s a journey of hope, opportunity, and transformation.
