Our Story

The Human Rights Council (HRCO) is a membership-based, non-partisan, non-political, non-governmental, not for profit and independent human rights group in Ethiopia. HRCO stands for democracy, the prevalence of the rule of law and respect of human rights in Ethiopia. From its inception on October 1991, HRCO remained to be the only human rights monitoring and reporting group in Ethiopia. Furthermore, HRCO is engaged in the provision of human rights education and training to the public and members of the government at all levels; conducting human rights related studies and researches; disseminating and publishing results; providing legal aid services mainly to victims of human rights violation.

የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ጉባዔ (ሰመጉ)፣ የቀድሞው የኢትዮጵያ ሰብዓዊ መብቶች ጉባዔ (ኢሰመጉ) በኢትዮጵያ የሽግግር ወቅት ቻርተር አንቀጽ 1(ሀ) እና በኢትዮጵያ ፍትሐብሔር ሕግ ቁጥር ከ404-482 በተጻፉት ድንጋጌዎች መሠረት መስከረም 29 ቀን 1984 ዓ.ም. በአባላት የተመሠረተ የመጀመሪያው መንግሥታዊ ያልሆነ የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ተሟጋች ተቋም ነው፡፡ ሰመጉ በበጎ አድራጎትና ማኅበራት ዐዋጅ ቁጥር 621/2001 መሠረት “ኢትዮጵያዊ የበጎ አድራጎት ማኅበር” ሆኖ በምዝገባ ቁጥር 1146 በሕጋዊነት በመንቀሳቀስ ላይ የሚገኝ ድርጅት ነው፡፡ ሰመጉ ከማናቸውም የፖለቲካ ፓርቲ፣ የሃይማኖት ተቋም፣ የብሔረሰብ ቡድን፣ ማህበራዊ መደብ ወዘተ የማይወግን፣ ለትርፍ ያልተቋቋመ፣ ነጻና ገለልተኛ የሆነ የሰብዓዊ መብቶች ተከላካይ ተቋም ነው፡፡ ሰመጉ የቆመው ለዴሞክራሲያዊ ሥርዓት መጎልበት፣ ለሕግ የበላይነት መስፈንና ለሰብዓዊ መብቶች መከበር ነው፡፡
