Dr. Abebech Gobena, a prominent humanitarian in Ethiopia, was born in 1938 in the then Shoa province, Selale Awraja in small rural village called Shebel. Her father was killed during Ethio - Italian war and she was brought up by her grandparent until she was nine. She was married at the age of ten in traditional marriage system without her consent which mad her unhappy with the marriage. She left

to Addis Ababa where she scraped basic education and later gained a job as quality controller in a company. Dr. Gobena is the founder and General manager of AGOHELMA, one of Ethiopia’s oldest orphanages. She was on a pilgrimage to Gishen Mariam in the Wollo region of Ethiopia, an important site in the Ethiopian orthodox faith. The area was famine stricken and on her way back home she found a baby laying next to her dead mother, at a feeding center. She subsequently brought a second baby home, who was lying next to his dead father. In one year’s time, she brought home 21 children. This simple act of love grew and grew over the last three decades. Gradually she got help and, in 1986, her orphanage was registered by the government. The Abebech Gobena Orphanage and School now have over 200 resident and 482 non-resident pupils, the government provides some teachers. AGO pays school fees for over 1,000 children from poor families at other schools. Over 1,800 benefit from a child-sponsorship scheme. Over 2,000 malnourished children and mothers receive food. In 1990 AGOS launched its first project outside Addis Ababa, at Guder 90 miles away. Initially, this was a farm to provide food and raise income for the Addis Ababa orphanage. AGOS has since established a primary school and a kindergarten for poor children at Burayu, on the outskirts of Addis, and a training centre in Fitche, 70 miles away, where trainees learn weaving, sweater-making, carpentry and masonry.

የደግ ልብ ስጦታ!

እኛ ሰዎች ስንባል እንደ መልካችን እና እንደ ቁመናችን ሁሉ በአስተሳሰባችን የተለያየን ነን፡፡
ከነዚህም መካከል ውስጣቸው በርህራሄ ብርሃን የተሞላ ቀና ልቦች አሉ፡፡

በተለይ ድርጅታችን የበጎ አድራጎት ተግባር መናሃሪያ መሆኑ ፈቅዶለት እነኝህን ብሩካን ለማወቅ ዕድሉ ሰፊ ነው፤ስለሆነም ከድርጅታቸን ጎን በመቆም የበጎነት አሻራቸውን እያኖሩ ካሉት መካከል ለዛሬ አንዲት አንደበተ-ቀና፣ ምግባረ- ሰናይ የሆኑና የልባቸው እልፍኝ በደግነት የተሞላ ኢትዮጵያዊት እናስተዋውቃችሁ፡፡

ወ/ሮ መቅደላዊት ታደሰ ይባላሉ፡፡ ኑሮአቸውን በጣልያን ሃገር ያደረጉ ናቸው፡፡ የሳቸው ማንነትም የተገለፀው ባደረጉት በጎ ድጋፍ ነው፡፡ በኝህ ቸር እናት እጆች ከተዳበሱት መካከል ታዳጊ ማንቱ ማኖጅ እና ዮሐንስ ኩምሳ የተባሉትን በድርጅታችን አቅራቢነት ላለፉት 7 ዓመታት የረዱና ዛሬም ከጎናቸው ያሉ እናት ናቸው፡፡

እነኝህም ሁሉት ታዳጊዎች በትምህርታቸው በመጠንከር ወደፊት ለመሆን ያላቸውን ምኞት ይነግሩናል። ሁለቱም እናታችን እያሉ በስስት የሚያዩአቸው አሳዳጊያቸውን በውጤታቸው ለማኩራት ካላቸው ተነሳሽነት ባለፈ ለሳቸው ያላቸው አክብሮት የለቀ ነው፡፡

ማመስገንን እንጂ ምስጋናን የማይሹት ወ/ሮ መቅደላዊት ዛሬ ደግሞ የመንትዮች እናት የሆነችውን ግለሰብ ሶስተኛዋ የፈጣሪ አደራዬ ናት በማለት ሊያግዙአትና ካለችበት ችግርም ተላቃ በራሷ ጸንታ እንድት ቆም ለማድረግ ተዘጋጅተዋል፡፡

ዛሬም ብዙ ወገኖቻችን የእኛን ድጋፍ ይሻሉና መሰል ድጋፍ ለሚሹ ወገኖቻችን እኝህን የመሰሉ የደጋግ ልብ ባለቤት የሆኑ ወገኖችን ያብዛልን፡፡

እርሶም በአካል ተገኝተዉ የዚህ መሰል በጎ ስራ ቤተሰብ ለመሆን ከፈለጉ በራችን ክፍት ነዉ። ሆኖም ርቀት ከገደቦት በ8925 ላይ ኦክ ብለዉ በመላክ አንድ ብር በመለገስ አሻራዎትን ያኑሩ።

Abebech Gobena Charity successfully held its regular 2026 Biannual Board Meeting, bringing together Board members and the management team to review the organization's achievements over the past six months and discuss strategic priorities for the future.

During the meeting, the Executive Director, Ato Eshetu Aredo, Program Director, Director of Finance and Income-Generating Activities, and Deputy Director presented comprehensive reports on the Charity's operational, programmatic, financial, administrative, public relations, and internal audit performance.

The Board highly appreciated the significant progress made by the organization and provided valuable guidance and recommendations to further strengthen its impact and service delivery.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Alemu Girma, Chairman of the Board, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the management and staff for their dedication and commitment.

He encouraged the entire team to continue building on the inspiring legacy of Dr. Abebech Gobena by transforming the lives of vulnerable children, women and communities.
