CHADET The GEC project ensures whether each girl gets material and emotional support she needs to succeed in education.

CHADET works on the protection and welfare of children under difficult circumstances; including street and working children, children exposed to sexual exploitation and abuse, orphans and other vulnerable children and youth. . Currently, CHADET in partnership with ChildHope UK are implementing the Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) program understanding the barriers girls are facing in education in

two regions of Ethiopia, Amhara and Oromiya regional states and go far beyond the girls’ education challenges, such as simple economics—cultural bias, tradition and safety concerns often stand in the way. Besides, the project will provide an enhanced approach that includes academic support, mentoring and life skills training. The project intends to support 14,503 marginalized girls that are facing early marriage, risky migration, street involvement and domestic work. In one way or another eliminating those barriers will enable girls join school and succeed. As part of the project activities implementing in the regions, community conversation is one tool to bring about attitudinal and behavioral change as well as identifying issues that hinder girls’ to join, retain and succeeds in education at household, community and institutional levels. The program is being implemented intensively in 30 kebeles of Oromiya and Amhara Regional States.
