Muday Charity Association (MCA)
MCA is an organization that aims to alleviate the plight of impoverished women and children in the Kotebe area of Addis Ababa. We do this by operating subsidiaries that are further divided into 2, the first being the Fresh and Green Academy. The Fresh and Green Academy was started in 1999, having started off as a fee-paying school by the founder Muday Mitiku it has
since been transformed completely. It started when the founder Muday started taking notice of the many underprivileged and impoverished children in the neighborhood and started taking them in and offering them scholarships. This soon proved to be a problem when the number of children on scholarships started too far outnumber those that were fee-paying. This soon resulted in an ultimatum from the dissatisfied parents that asked Muday to choose between the fee-paying kids and those on scholarship. In the end, Muday decided to turn the school into a full-time charitable organization only taking in destitute children. The school provides the children with basic amenities such as 3 square meals a day, a school uniform, shoes, books, and other learning materials alongside a fully funded education from kindergarten until Grade 7. On the other hand, the other subsidiary organization that Muday Charity Association runs deals with the impoverished women of the Kotebe area. Most of the time the women are the mothers of the children that are attending the Fresh and Green Academy. Here the women learn different crafts , like making scarfs, dresses, jewelry, and pottery among others. The aim of this project is to give the once-destitute street women some hope for the future by ensuring that they gain skills that are able to ensure that they get a sustainable income. Other than that Muday Charity Association also ensures that all those under its care receive proper health care. This is especially important as most of the women and children in the program come from harsh life on the streets as beggars and as prostitutes. Exposing them to various diseases but more so making them susceptible to contracting HIV/AIDS. Most of the beneficiaries are in fact directly or indirectly affected by HIV/AIDS. Muday Charity Association is very much a source of hope for the many women and children that have no where to go. The disenfranchised in Ethiopia have limited options for support as the country doesn't have a safety net for those that are not able to take care of themselves. Muday Charity Association takes this place with love and care for we believe that it is our duty to help those that cannot help themselves. The founder Muday Mitiku has made this all possible for a number of years but throughout the years the situation has gotten more difficult to sustain. Therefore we would like to humbly request any assistance possible.
