Consortium of Self help group Approach Promoters (CoSAP) is an umbrella of organizations that are engaged in promoting the Self Help Group (SHG) approach. CoSAP is registered as civil society organization by the Federal Civil Society Organizations Authority under registration number 1590. It is the only legally mandated consortium to represent the SHG approach in Ethiopia. Before reestablishing itself as a consortium in 2010 CoSAP played a leading role in promoting the approach under the auspices of the National Coordination office since 2002. Currently CoSAP has 33 members (see list of members) that are implementing the SHG approach for women’s socioeconomic empowerment.

🌍 Africa Can’t Wait: Standing Together for Climate Justice! 🌿

CoSAP was honored to participate in the powerful launch of the “Africa Can’t Wait: Interfaith Voices for Just Climate Action” campaign in Addis Ababa, joining faith leaders, civil society partners, and advocates from across the continent.

As part of this historic Pan-African movement toward COP32, CoSAP proudly added its signature to the campaign petition—standing in solidarity with unified interfaith voices demanding a decisive shift from climate promises to just tangible implementation for our communities.

Africa’s local realities and community-led solutions must lead the way. We extend our deepest appreciation to the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC), ACT Alliance, AFAN-CJ, EOC-DICAC, and all dedicated colleagues for organizing this milestone event.

CoSAP recently convened an impactful two-day capacity-building workshop in Jigjiga, bringing together vibrant Self-Help Group (SHG) members, Cluster Level Association (CLA) representatives, and Young Female Leaders (YFLs).

To ensure long-term institutional sustainability and financial resilience, this session uniquely integrated two critical pillars into a single, comprehensive training package:
· 💡 Equipping grassroots entrepreneurs with market-oriented strategies, cash flow management expertise, and practical tools for business growth.
· 📚 Standardizing financial documentation, ledger entries, and audit readiness across group structures to strengthen transparency and accountability.

By linking strategic business expansion directly with sound financial recordkeeping, CoSAP is empowering local women leaders to scale their enterprises, manage collective funds with confidence, and lead thriving community institutions.

Together, we are building stronger, self-sustaining grassroots institutions across Ethiopia! 🌐✨

🌟 Empowering Emerging Women Leaders: Launching the Young Female Leaders (YFL) Mentorship Program

CoSAP convened a transformative two-day mentorship workshop at Aya Hotel, bringing together vibrant Young Female Leaders (YFLs), Community Facilitators (CFs), and SHG members, Civil Society Organization (CSO) executives, and local government representatives.

This strategic engagement marks the official launch of a structured mentorship initiative designed to nurture, elevate, and accelerate the leadership journeys of young women at the community level.

By bridging grassroots action with high-level institutional expertise, YFLs were paired with mentors across city administration, sub-city, and woreda levels, gaining invaluable insights into governance, public administration, and community development.

Key Highlights of the Launch:

🤝 Aligning emerging leaders with experienced mentors based on shared goals, technical expertise, and vision.

🏛 Engaging government bodies and civil society leaders to offer holistic guidance across public service and community development.

💡 Enhancing the confidence, strategic knowledge, and decision-making skills of young female leaders.

🌐 Cultivating strong, long-term networks between established women leaders and the next generation within the SHG movement.

CoSAP Participates in the National Multi-Stakeholder Peace Education Workshop
CoSAP participated in the National Multi-Stakeholder Peace Education Workshop organized by the African Women Peace and Security Institute (AWPSI).
The workshop focused on sharing evidence-based efforts and experiences by AWPSI toward incorporating peace education into the Ethiopian education curriculum as a means of building sustainable peace from the root.
The event featured panel discussions, interactive question-and-answer sessions, the sharing of opinions and perspectives, and discussions on the way forward. These sessions provided participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences, reflect on key issues, and contribute recommendations for strengthening peace education in Ethiopia.
The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders from government institutions, higher education institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), NGOs, and other sectors across different regions of Ethiopia.
CoSAP values such collaborative platforms and remains committed to contributing to efforts that promote peace, dialogue, inclusion, and sustainable development.
ኮሳፕ በአፍሪካ ሴቶች ሰላምና ደህንነት ኢንስቲትዩት (AWPSI) በተዘጋጀው ብሔራዊ የባለ ብዙ ባለድርሻ አካላት የሰላም ትምህርት ወርክሾፕ ተሳትፏል።
ወርክሾፑ የሰላም ትምህርትን በኢትዮጵያ የትምህርት ሥርዓተ-ትምህርት ውስጥ ለማካተት በAWPSI የተከናወኑ በማስረጃ የተደገፉ ጥረቶችን በማጋራት፣ ዘላቂ ሰላምን ከሥሩ ለመገንባት ያተኮረ ነው።

🏛 Strengthening Grassroots Women’s Institutions in Amhara Region

CoSAP, in strategic partnership with Facilitators for Change (FC), successfully convened a two-day institutional capacity-building workshop in Debre Markos, Amhara Region.

The gathering brought together 75 representatives from three Self-Help Group (SHG) Federations across Debre Markos, Sinan, and Machakel Woredas to reflect on institutional growth and sustainability.

Key discussion highlights included:
· 📊 Assessing the current operational standing and governance of local SHG structures.
· 💡 Sharing best practices and field strategies used by Federations to navigate local challenges.
· 💳 Identifying pathways to expand formal and digital financial services for member women.
· 🎯 Aligning future action plans to build sustainable, community-led institutions.

The workshop concluded with joint strategic recommendations and actionable roadmaps set by the CoSAP and FC teams to further reinforce the governance, accountability, and impact of grassroots SHG federations.
