From Strategy to Action: Advancing Ethiopia’s Circular Economy
On September 24, 2026, PETCO Ethiopia, in partnership with Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), convened a National Plastic Waste Management Strategy Awareness-Raising Workshop at Capital Hotel, Addis Ababa.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the public sector, academia, civil society, and the private sector to strengthen ownership, mainstreaming, and effective implementation of Ethiopia’s National Plastic Waste Management Strategy (2024–2034).
The dialogue went beyond awareness. Stakeholders explored clear roles, responsibilities, and opportunities for cross-sector collaboration to translate the Strategy into practical action and measurable results.
A key focus of the discussion was the strong alignment between the National Plastic Waste Management Strategy and Ethiopia’s NDC 3.0, particularly the country’s commitment to advancing a circular, resource-efficient, and climate-resilient economy.
Effective plastic waste management is not only an environmental priority—it is also a climate, economic development, innovation, and green jobs agenda. Strengthening systems for prevention, collection, recovery, recycling, and the use of secondary materials can reduce emissions, conserve resources, create green jobs, and contribute to Ethiopia’s national climate commitments.
The path ahead requires collective ownership, coordinated investment, strong partnerships, and decisive implementation.
PETCO Ethiopia remains committed to working with government, industry, development partners, academia, CSOs, and communities to transform the Strategy from a national framework into practical solutions, thriving circular value chains, and measurable impact.
