ISHDO Collaborates in Practical Training Workshop for Government Cluster Supervisors in Oromia

Jimma, September 24–25, 2026 The Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO), in collaboration with DEC and the Luminos Fund (LF) SPELL Oromia team, is conducting a practical training workshop for Government Cluster Supervisors (GCS) at Jimma Teachers Training College.

The two-day capacity-building workshop brings together Government Cluster Supervisors from four woredas in the Oromia Region: Dedo, Shebe, Mana, and Woliso, with the aim of strengthening their supervision skills and preparing them for effective field implementation.

The workshop commenced with opening remarks and strategic guidance from the Head of the Jimma Zone Education Bureau, emphasizing the importance of strengthening education supervision and supporting improved learning outcomes.

🔹 Digital Tools for Education Supervision

Facilitated by the Luminos Fund SPELL team and Ato Biserat, participants are receiving hands-on training on SurveyCTO using mobile tablets provided by the Luminos Fund to each Government Cluster Supervisor. The digital tools are designed to support modernized data collection and strengthen school supervision activities.

🔹 Collaborative Training and Capacity Building

Lead trainers from ISHDO, DEC, and the Luminos Fund are facilitating interactive and practical sessions to equip supervisors with the knowledge and skills needed for effective field ex*****on.

Through this collaborative capacity-building initiative, ISHDO and its partners are contributing to the strengthening of education monitoring, digital data collection, and school supervision, supporting improved educational outcomes for schools and learners across the Oromia Region.

ISHDO Launches Community Breast Cancer Project in Jimma Town

Jimma Town, September 21, 2026 — The Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO) successfully conducted the launching and cascading activity of its Community Breast Cancer Project in Jimma Town.

The event brought together the Regional Health Department Head, Woreda Health Office focal persons, Health Extension Program focal persons, and other relevant stakeholders to introduce the project and strengthen collaboration for its implementation.

During the discussion, stakeholders expressed their commitment to supporting and facilitating the implementation of the community breast cancer project in their respective areas, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts to promote breast cancer awareness, early detection, and referral services.

ISHDO remains committed to working with government health institutions and community stakeholders to advance breast cancer awareness and early referral services.

ISHDO Collaborates in SPELL Program Launch and SALP Planning Workshop in Sidama Region

Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO), in collaboration with EECMY-DASSC SCES BO, and under the leadership of the Sidama Regional Education Bureau and The Luminos Fund, successfully launched the Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life (SPELL) program and conducted a planning workshop for the Structured Accelerated Learning Program (SALP) in the Sidama Region.

The event brought together education leaders, government representatives, and implementing partners to strengthen coordination, review progress, and plan for the effective implementation of SPELL and SALP across the region.

The opening session featured remarks and strategic guidance from H.E. Ato Beyene Beraso, Head of the Sidama Regional Education Bureau and Deputy President of the Sidama Region. He emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from previous SALP implementation, which contributed to improvements in foundational literacy and numeracy. He also highlighted that SPELL and SALP are government-led programs, with partners supporting implementation and addressing identified gaps.

Ato Hassen, Country Manager of The Luminos Fund, presented an overview of SPELL and SALP, including key data and findings from recent assessments. Ato Teshale Shalamo, Director of the Adult and Non-Formal Education Directorate at the Sidama Regional Education Bureau, also presented an update on program progress and registration across the region.

The workshop brought together 97 participants, including representatives from the Sidama Regional Education Bureau, four Zonal Education Departments, one City Administration Education Office, and 37 Woreda Education Office Heads.

As part of the implementation partnership, ISHDO will facilitate and implement SPELL and SALP activities across two zones and 11 woredas, contributing to efforts to strengthen foundational learning and improve educational outcomes for children in the Sidama Region.

ISHDO Launches Community Breast Cancer Awareness and Early Referral Program in Northern Sidama

The Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO) has officially launched the Community Breast Cancer Awareness, Demand Creation, and Early Referral Program in Northern Sidama Zone, Sidama Regional State.

The launch brought together the Sidama Regional Health Bureau, government representatives, development partners, health facilities, and community stakeholders around a shared commitment to strengthening breast cancer awareness and promoting early detection.

The event was attended by Dr. Selamawit Menegesha , Head of the Sidama Regional Health Bureau, along with key government and community representatives.

With technical and financial support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), ISHDO will implement the program in collaboration with regional and zonal health departments, woreda health offices, health facilities, and community structures.

During the launch, ISHDO presented the program’s objectives, key activities, implementation approach, and expected results, while participating stakeholders expressed their commitment to supporting coordinated implementation.

The launch marks an important step toward bringing breast cancer awareness, early identification, referral, and linkage to care closer to communities in Northern Sidama.

SPELL Teacher Training Completed in Sidama Region

The Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life (SPELL) Teacher Training has been successfully completed in the Sidama Region, strengthening teachers’ knowledge and skills to support children’s early learning.

The training brought together 30 government school teachers from three woredas and 10 schools selected by the Luminos Fund (LF) for research purposes.

The opening session featured key messages and guidance from Ato Tafesse G/Mariam, Deputy Head of the Sidama Regional Education Bureau, and Miss Aster Kebede, Director of the CIP Directorate at the Regional Education Bureau.

The training used a participatory and learner-centered approach, giving teachers opportunities to practice, collaborate, exchange experiences, and reflect on effective classroom practices.

The training focused on strengthening teachers’ capacity to help children develop strong and effective reading skills from the early years of their education, contributing to improved foundational learning.

The successful completion of the training reflects the commitment of the participating teachers and education stakeholders to strengthening teaching practices and improving learning outcomes for children.

SPELL Oromia Teacher and School Directors Training Successfully Completed

The Structured Pedagogy to Enhance Learning for Life (SPELL) Project has successfully completed its teacher and school directors training activities in Oromia, supporting efforts to strengthen teaching and learning for children.

A total of 84 school directors, including 77 men and 7 women, participated in the SPELL school directors training. In addition, 136 teachers, including 67 men and 69 women, participated across two rounds of SPELL teacher training.

The project also included 10 school directors from randomly selected schools participating as the treatment group in an experimental study to help assess the effectiveness of the SPELL approach.

The training used an engaging, participatory, and learner-centered approach, encouraging teachers and school leaders to actively participate, practice, collaborate, and strengthen their practical knowledge and skills.

The training was officially opened with key messages from Obo Anewar, Deputy Head of the Jimma Zone Education Department. Obo Mifita and Obo Yadessa also delivered welcoming remarks and provided important guidance to participants.

The Head of the Jimma Education Department visited the training sessions and shared an encouraging message and important guidance with school leaders and woreda education office heads.

The successful completion of the training demonstrates the commitment of ISHDO and its partners to strengthening teachers and school leaders and supporting better learning outcomes for children.

ISHDO Launches Community Breast Cancer Awareness and Early Detection Project in Silti Zone on August 30th.

The Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO) has officially launched its Community Breast Cancer Awareness, Referral and Early Detection Project in Werabe Town, Silti Zone, Central Ethiopia

The project is being implemented by ISHDO with technical and financial support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), in collaboration with regional, zonal and woreda health offices, health facilities, and community stakeholders.

During the launch event, an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was discussed and signed at the zonal level, formalizing the partnership and commitment to the implementation of the project. ISHDO also presented the project’s objectives, key activities, and planned areas of work.

The event brought together key health and government stakeholders, including representatives from the Regional Health Bureau, Zonal Health Office, Woreda Health Office, health centers, Health Extension Workers (HEWs), Disease Prevention teams, and the Zonal Finance Office.

Participants expressed their strong commitment and support for the successful implementation of the project, which aims to strengthen community awareness, early identification, and referral for breast cancer services.

Through this initiative, ISHDO and its partners are working to improve awareness and promote earlier detection, referral, and access to appropriate breast cancer care within the community.
