Empowering Girls, Protecting Futures

PHE-EC, in collaboration with Green Health Africa, successfully conducted a menstrual health awareness and sanitary pad donation program at a primary school in Dedo Woreda, Sito Kebele.

The initiative aimed to prevent school dropout among adolescent girls by addressing one of the most overlooked barriers—menstrual health management.

The session focused on empowering female students through comprehensive health education on the menstrual cycle, including practical guidance on the proper use of reusable sanitary pads and simple methods for tracking menstrual cycle using simple paper-based methods.

As part of the initiative, selected students received reusable sanitary pads, while additional disposable sanitary pads were donated to the school to ensure continued support.

This program is a step forward in preventing school dropout among girls by promoting dignity, confidence, and access to essential menstrual health resources.

🌍🌳 International Day of Forests, March 21, 2026 🌳🌍
Theme: Forests and Economies
Forests are more than the “lungs of the planet”—they are engines of sustainable prosperity. This year’s theme, Forests and Economies, reminds us that forests fuel livelihoods, strengthen agricultural productivity, and build climate resilience.
At PHE Ethiopian Consortium (PHE-EC), we celebrate this day by advancing our annual tree planting campaigns and promoting inclusive, community-driven conservation. Forests safeguard watersheds, sustain family farming, and provide nature-based solutions for a sustainable bioeconomy.
 Healthy forests mean healthy economies—for today and for generations to come.
 Join us as we plant hope, protect biodiversity, and invest in resilient livelihoods. Together, we can grow a greener, more prosperous future.

Building Capacity for Community Peacebuilding

Under the Practice Peace and Live in Tranquility (PPaT) Project, refresher trainings were conducted for peace promoters and key government representatives across 8 intervention woredas and 19 kebeles in Afar, Oromia, and Somali regions.

The training delivered in four clusters—one in Afar, two in Oromia, and one in Somali—the trainings aimed to strengthen the skills of existing peace promoters while equipping new participants to step in for dropouts.

A flipbook, developed by PHE-EC, was also introduced, and peace promoters were trained on how to utilize it as a practical tool to facilitate the learning process and guide community discussions.

As a result, participants are now better prepared to facilitate inclusive, respectful, and solution-oriented dialogues that effectively address local conflicts and promote lasting peace.

Give to gain

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Population, Health and Environment Ethiopia Consortium (PHE-EC) proudly marked the occasion at its Head Office.

At PHE-EC, gender equality is not only a principle but a guiding approach embedded throughout our work—from the design of projects to the implementation of development initiatives.
Reflecting this commitment, women are actively included across PHE-EC’s programs, representing 80%, 75%, or at least 50% participation in many of its initiatives. We strongly believe that sustainable development is achieved when women are meaningfully engaged and empowered.

As part of today’s celebration, PHE-EC recognized and appreciated its women staff members for their dedication, professionalism, and the vital role they play in advancing the organization’s mission.

The event also created space for staff reflections through guided questions, encouraging participants to share their thoughts on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and collective responsibility in promoting inclusive development. In addition, each staff member expressed their personal commitment by writing a promise or dedication note, reaffirming their support for advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls.

The event served as a moment to celebrate achievements, reaffirm commitment to gender equality, and recognize the inspiring women who are making a positive impact within the organization and beyond
Happy International Women’s Day 💜

Together, we celebrate the strength, leadership, and impact of women.

Day Three – Final Day of the 5th CSO Week

The final day of the 5th CSO Week marked the successful conclusion of three days of meaningful engagement, learning, and collaboration among civil society organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders.

Throughout the event, the exhibition and panel discussions served as valuable platforms for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and networking. The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our work, enhance the visibility of our initiatives, and engage with a wide range of stakeholders committed to advancing community-centered development.

During the week, we also had the opportunity to participate in panel discussions addressing current and pressing issues. These sessions created important spaces for exchanging perspectives, sharing experiences, and strengthening collaboration among organizations working toward common goals.

We are also honored to have received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of our participation. The certificate was prepared by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) and the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council (ECSOC) and was graciously handed over by H.E. Dr. Ergoge Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the organizers and all participants who contributed to making the 5th CSO Week a vibrant, impactful, and inspiring event. The connections built, ideas exchanged, and experiences shared during these three days will continue to strengthen our collective efforts in advancing the work and impact of civil society.
