The African Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB DRR), through its Central African Representative and Vice-Secretary, Katikomo John, organized a capacity-building workshop for Congolese youth from universities and civil society organizations.
Held in collaboration with the Catholic University La Sapiensia (UCS-Goma) and the African Union Commission (AUC), the workshop brought together more than 50 participants to strengthen skills in disaster risk management and climate resilience.

Young people, scientists, and activists worked side by side on practical solutions — from improving early warning systems for volcanic eruptions and floods 🌋, to promoting community-based resilience and climate-smart livelihoods 🌾.

The 3rd Annual Africa Public Health Students Summit (18–19 Sept 2025, Addis Ababa) brought together inspiring voices under the theme: “Empowering Africa’s Youth: Building Resilient Communities for Health Emergency Preparedness and Response.”

AYAB-DRR participated as a panelist, emphasizing the integration of DRR in health preparedness, youth-driven solutions, and localizing response by capacitating communities as first responders.

We closed by urging youth to continue advocating for more than 15% of national budgets for health—an essential step to strengthen Africa’s resilience.
