It is worth recalling that the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Association (EPA) launched seven (7) new pharmacy initiatives during the celebration of its Golden Jubilee in December 2026. Two of these initiatives are “Empowering Women in Pharmacy” and “Pharmaceutical Sector Leadership Development.”
In line with this, EPA has been undertaking various activities to advance these seven initiatives in general, and the two women-focused and leadership initiatives in particular. EPA has developed a three-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course titled “Leadership for Pharmacy Professionals.” In addition, the Association has established a committee to oversee “Empowering Women in Pharmacy” and has appointed a coordinator to ensure its full implementation. EPA is also working to introduce an internship program for graduating pharmacy students, along with recognition and awards for outstanding women in pharmacy practice.
Furthermore, EPA has conducted multiple CPD trainings specifically dedicated to women members. In collaboration with the Square Foundation, EPA is a three-day (22-24 May 2026) CPD training for female pharmacy professionals in leadership positions. Participants are drawn from a wide range of stakeholders, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmaceutical importers and wholesalers, community pharmacies, the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service (EPSS), the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), public and private hospitals, and other relevant institutions.
Finally, EPA would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Square Foundation for financially supporting this training and strongly encourages other institutions to follow this example.
