Carry 117

Carry 117 Our heartbeat is orphan prevention & family preservation through women empowerment. We teach at-risk women in Ethiopia to sew beautiful products. Seek justice.

Through a holistic approach, we provide a hand up, rather than a hand out. We do this by providing women with a sustainable skill and job, which allows them to provide for themselves and their children. This in turn preserves their family. Through buying this product you are helping preserve a family. Thank you for partnering with us. We truly believe it is something worth carrying. The women are

being trained by a professional sewer to cut, design, sew, and make a variety of bags (products that “carry” things) out of burlap and canvas. We hope these products will be sold at small shops and churches, and to people who believe in the mission. Learn to do good. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. Isaiah 1:17

We want to carry this verse with us, and want it to be the verse that is driving the organization forward. Message us for more information or if you would like to get involved!

One of the things we value most at Carry 117 is being willing to learn.

This week, our daycare nannies and leadership team had the opportunity to spend time with the incredible team at Hope for Korah learning how to continue growing the quality of care, structure, and experience we provide for the children in our daycare program.

We originally started the Carry 117 daycare as a way to support our employees during one of the most vulnerable seasons of life. We never wanted mothers to feel forced to choose between caring for their child and keeping a stable income. Creating a safe place for children to stay during the workday allows women to continue working while knowing their children are cared for until they reach school age.

During our visit, our team observed so many thoughtful systems and practices that create a healthy, engaging, and nurturing environment for children and staff alike — from structured routines and learning activities to hygiene practices, child development strategies, organization, creativity, and the overall atmosphere of the space.

We are so grateful for organizations who lead with excellence and generosity, and who are willing to share what they’ve learned along the way. Growth requires humility, curiosity, and a willingness to keep getting better…and we’re committed to all three.

Thank you, Hope for Korah, for challenging and inspiring us.
The women and children of Carry 117 will be better because of it.

In Building Bridges, Ashley and Henok explore what it looks like to learn from one another across cultures.

Ashley writes from a Western perspective.

Henok brings the perspective of the Eastern world.

Together, they unpack lessons that can change how we serve, lead, and build relationships globally.

This is not charity.
This is craftsmanship.
This is opportunity.

Every stitch represents a woman building income, stability, and a future for her family.

This is what it looks like to choose empowerment over handouts.

This is Carry 117.
