🌱 Every glass of milk starts with hope and resilience. Every sip is a step towards a brighter future for families in ’s Region. 💧

Meet Aamiina*, a devoted mother whose daily ritual of giving her son Hassan* a glass of fresh, nutritious milk has become a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Thanks to the high-quality grass seedlings provided by and funded by Save the Children Italia , her dairy cow is thriving, and so is her family. 🐄

This transformative initiative helps communities adapt to recurrent droughts and climate challenges. With healthier livestock and increased milk production, Aamiina’s* children are not just surviving, they’re flourishing.

"My children love the milk," she says.

"They are stronger, healthier, and enjoy their meals more. I no longer worry as much about their nutrition." 🥛

But the benefits don't stop there. Aamiina* now sells surplus milk at the local market, generating income to support her household. With dreams of expanding her fodder production and rebuilding her livestock herd, she's laying the groundwork for a more stable and resilient future.

Think about the moment you finally felt your future was in your own hands. In , 19-year-old Sarah* reached that point after returning from an attempt at unsafe migration to and . Through the Project (AID 12590/07/6), funded by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo, she received practical training in business management and a small start-up grant. Today, she and four other returnee youth run a growing décor and event organizing business that now supports their families and offers a real alternative to risky journeys.

In December 2025, we gathered 64+ partners in for the closeout workshop. Together with our research partner CeSPI, implementing partner PAD, and government offices from regional to woreda level, we reviewed how the project has helped reduce unsafe migration by opening doors to income and entrepreneurship for young people like Sarah*.

As the world marks the International Day of Education under the theme “The power of youth in co-creating education,” Save the Children in Ethiopia, is standing with children and young people across . Even in the middle of drought, conflict, or displacement, we are raising their voices and imagining better schools, safer classrooms, and learning that empowers every child. Through Education Cannot Wait Multi-Year Resilience Programme II (ECW-MYRP II), we are bringing a multitude of partners together around one shared belief: Children are not just learners, they are leaders.

With support from The LEGO Foundation, we are also weaving play into education in emergencies so that children can laugh again, make friends again, and rebuild the confidence to shape their own learning paths.

EDUCATION CANNOT WAIT! – Not today, not ever.

When children and youth in are recognized as true partners in , they turn the hardest places into starting points for hope, and open the door to stronger, more resilient communities for years to come.

“From paper to pixel, Hawa is helping transform healthcare in some of ’s most remote communities.”

In the Region, where drought and various climate-induced insecurities have made basic health services difficult to access, mobile clinics are a lifeline for children and their families. Now, a new digital workflow and reporting system that Save the Children in Ethiopia is piloting and funded by The Gates Foundation is helping health workers like Hawa do even more.

With a tablet in her hands, Hawa can register every child she sees – even without an internet connection. The system securely stores patient histories and vaccine records, prevents data loss, and syncs later to share information quickly with health facilities and decision-makers.

Upon completion of this piloting phase and full system scale-up, the vital work of the Mobile Health and Nutrition Team ( ) will be fully reflected in the National Health Management Information System ( ) – ensuring children in hard-to-reach areas are counted and better served across the country.

This is how smarter data can save lives and shape better decisions for children.
