Onesimus Children Development Association (OCDA)

Onesimus Children Development Association (OCDA) Education, good news/gospel and income generation Today in Addis Ababa, there are an estimated 150,000 children living on the streets.

Onesimus Children Development Association was started about fifteen years ago by Nega Meaza in partnership with The Forsaken Children with the goal of rehabilitating and reintegrating street children in Addis. Each year the Onesimus staff goes directly to the streets to meet and interview children between the ages of 5 and 16. A certain number of those interviewed are invited to come to the drop i

n center Monday through Friday, for breakfast, lunch, counseling and informal education. After several months of attending the center, if the child is ready, the staff first tries to put the child back with their family. If there is no family or the situation does not allow it, the child is placed in a halfway home, with the future possibility of a foster family. Children living in the halfway homes and those back with their families continue to receive support from Onesimus through school supplies, school fees, lunch and some tutorial classes. Every child is gift from God and Onesimus aims to help these disadvantaged children lead happy, healthy, productive and blessed lives. We see the water-drilling project not only as a solution to our own water needs, but also as an opportunity to serve the community, generate income, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the organization.
