Highlights from ‘French-up Your Career’ at Addis Ababa University 🇪🇹🇫🇷

On May 26, we celebrated the inauguration of a new digital French Language Room at Addis Ababa University equipped thanks to funding from the French Embassy in Ethiopia’s “Promotion of French in Ethiopia” project. The ceremony was marked by the signing of a tripartite agreement between Addis Ababa University, the French Embassy, ​​and the Alliance Ethio-Française of Addis Ababa for the joint management of the room.

The event also featured a panel discussion on “Leveraging French Language Skills for Career Opportunities”with distinguished speakers from the Embassy of France in Ethiopia, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the Association of French Teachers in Ethiopia (APFE), and the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), bringing together more than 150 participants.

Last week, Alliance Ethio-Française Addis Ababa hosted the final training session of the Promoting French in Ethiopiaproject, funded by the Embassy of France in Ethiopia. 🇪🇹🇫🇷

From 18 to 22 May 2026, 24 secondary school French teachers from Addis Ababa, Mekelle, Dire Dawa, Ambo, Adama, Yabelo, and Bedele came together for a 27-hour training focused on French language didactics and innovative approaches to teaching French without materials.
Led by experienced trainers Linda Maldji and Aude Dubuisson from the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée (CLA), the training provided participants with practical tools, fresh perspectives, and opportunities to exchange experiences with fellow educators from across the country.

As the final training of the project, this session marked an important step in strengthening French language education and supporting the dedicated teachers who bring the French language to classrooms throughout Ethiopia.
