World Vision Ethiopia

World Vision Ethiopia World Vision is an international Christian relief and development organisation founded in 1950. Today, we operate in 100+ countries, including Ethiopia.

World Vision Ethiopia began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened the Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people. Our Goal

World Vision Ethiopia aims to

contribute to a measurably improved well-being of 25 million children, 16 million of whom are most vulnerable by 2025. Our Vision

Our vision for every child, life in all its fullness;
Our prayer for every heart, the will to make it so. Our Approach

After an intensive relief and rehabilitation programme, the organization developed a new integrated development approach, the objective of which was to ensure empowerment and transformational change. This approach led to the establishment of Area Development Programs (ADPs) in the 1990s, which is still being implemented and continuously strengthened today. Geographic Coverage

At present registered and licensed by Ethiopia’s Charities and Societies Agency, World Vision Ethiopia operates in 54 ADPs, coordinated by eight programme offices in seven regional states and one city administration. These are Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, SNNP, Sidama, Benshangul-Gumuz, Somali and Addis Ababa City Administration. Moreover, World Vision carries out emergency response interventions in the regions of Oromia, SNNP, Sidama, Benshangul-Gumuz, Somali and in the Northern Ethiopia Emergency Crisis through the sectors of Emergency Nutrition, Emergency Health, Emergency WASH, Shelter/ None Food Items (NFI), Food Security and Emergency Livelihood, Protection In Emergencies, Education In Emergencies and
Food Assistance Operation (JEOP). Accountability and Reporting Concerns

World Vision Ethiopia is committed to maintaining high standards of accountability and ethical conduct. If you have concerns regarding child protection, adult beneficiary issues, or any aspect of our staff conduct, we encourage you to report them. “I want to be in class every day… but sometimes I have to walk for water first.”

For many , what seems simple is still out of reach. Clean water, safety, a chance to learn. These are not big asks, yet they change everything.

Across the communities we work with, access to water, protection, and education is opening that door for children, one step at a time.

This and every day, may we choose to respond with open hands and steady commitment.

We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oromia Regional Government, further strengthening our long-standing partnership with regional governments to deliver lasting impact for children and communities across .

This MoU reflects our strategic approach of building deep, multi-year collaborations with regional states through integrated, systems-strengthening programmes that move beyond short-term projects to drive sustainable, transformative change.

As we launch our FY26–30 Strategy, we are committed to impacting more than 4.1 million children through integrated, context‑responsive, and partnership‑driven programming.

By placing at the centre of everything we do, we work hand-in-hand with government, communities, civil society, and development partners to build stronger systems and deliver measurable, long-term impact, so every child can be safe, nourished, educated and hopeful for the future.

Let’s talk about water, sanitation and hygiene that actually lasts.

At the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, alongside our partners, we will host a side event on Tuesday, 28 April, focused on adaptive and resilient WASH systems.

We’re exploring what’s working, what’s not, and what it will take to build systems that can withstand climate shocks and still protect children’s health, dignity, and future. Because when water, sanitation, and hygiene systems break down, children are the most affected.

If you’re working on climate resilience, innovation, or child well-being, feel free to join us even briefly between sessions. Your voice adds value to this conversation.

When water systems fail, children feel it first.

As climate shocks intensify across , water, sanitation and hygiene services are under growing strain. Droughts, floods and fragile systems put children’s health, learning and dignity at risk every day.

At the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, alongside our partners, we are hosting a side event on 28 April at UNECA, Addis Ababa, to explore how child-centred, climate-resilient WASH systems can move beyond short-term fixes to deliver lasting impact.

Sustainability is not just a concept; it’s a practice passed from one generation to the next.

Sometimes it looks like a mother tending her garden, while her learn by watching and by doing.

Caring for the planet starts at home, in the smallest daily actions.

What we nurture today shapes the world they will inherit tomorrow.

Meriam is one of thousands of people whose experience reflects resilience, dignity, and hope.

Through the cash assistance, families are able to respond to their household needs.

In the last six months, our JEOP project supported more than 110,000 people through the distribution of over ETB 122.6 million in the Oromia region.

Support like this helps restore stability when it is needed most.

gives 14-year-old Nyabang from Kule Refugee Camp, Gambella, the energy to focus in class and achieve better grades.

Her ambition was always there. A nutritious meal simply helps her fully step into it.

Every child deserves that same chance: to learn, grow, and dream with the nourishment they need at school.

We are committed to building lasting community-led solutions so can come to school ready to learn.
