We began the first joint training session of 2026 together with Taekwondo masters from across Ethiopia.
It was a meaningful and joyful time to meet again after a long while, sharing sweat in the same dojang and becoming one through Taekwondo.
We sincerely thank the masters who traveled from far away to join us.
🥋 The Ten Key Principles of Taekwondo Training
During this training, we reviewed the fundamental principles that form the foundation of Taekwondo practice.
1️⃣ Kihap (Spirit Shout)
Gather energy into one point, concentrating power while coordinating breathing and timing to improve speed and stability of techniques.
2️⃣ Sisan (Focus of the Eyes)
Maintain a steady gaze on the opponent to strengthen judgment, awareness, and control.
3️⃣ Center and Movement of the Center
Control balance and movement to enhance stability and efficiency of techniques.
4️⃣ Expansion and Contraction of the Body
Use extension and retraction of the body to create range, elasticity, and flexibility in motion.
5️⃣ Control of Strength
Adjust the level of power according to the situation, using energy efficiently without unnecessary exertion.
6️⃣ Rhythm and Tempo of Energy
The ability to regulate speed.
By controlling fast and slow rhythms, practitioners create timing and disrupt the opponent’s flow.
It is not just speed, but training in rhythm and control.
7️⃣ Accuracy of Energy
Deliver power precisely to the intended point.
Clear direction, angle, and target bring techniques to life. In Taekwondo, precision at one point is more important than large movements.
8️⃣ Distance Control
Maintain the most effective distance for both attack and defense. Too far weakens technique, too close breaks balance. Victory in sparring is often determined by distance management.
9️⃣ Breathing Method
Breathing is the foundation for endurance and concentration. When breathing and movement are unified, power flows naturally and injuries are prevented. Breathing is both the beginning and the end of technique.
🔟 Conditioning of Hands and Feet
Continuously train the hands and feet to withstand impact and apply techniques accurately.
Mastery is ultimately built through consistent repetition and conditioning.
✅ Training Application Principle
Whether in sparring, poomsae, demonstrations, or breaking, all training must incorporate these ten elements together. Principles must come before techniques.
📅 Looking Ahead
We hope many more practitioners will join the training in March. We also encourage regional masters to build a community where they can gather and train together at least once a month.
Through Taekwondo, we are one.
Thank you.
