🌱 Protect Her Future. Strengthen Her Voice. End FGM and Child, Early and Forced Marriage.

Under the Future4Binti (F4B) Program, alignAfrica, in collaboration with Amref Health Africa and Plan International Ethiopia, is supporting young people in the Afar Region to build the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills they need to shape safer and more empowered futures.

From 26–30 August 2026, alignAfrica conducted a five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Standardized Life Skills Education for Youth.

A total of 23 young people 20 girls and 3 boys aged 15–20 from Asayita, Dubti, and Afambo woredas participated in the training. The sessions addressed critical issues affecting adolescents, including gender and social norms, FGM, child, early and forced marriage, adolescent and reproductive health, peer pressure, communication, critical thinking, decision-making, assertiveness, refusal skills, goal setting, and future planning.

Through interactive discussions, role plays, simulations, practical exercises, reflection, and vision mapping, participants moved beyond knowledge to practice communication, strengthen their confidence, and build the skills needed to make informed decisions and support their peers.
✨ The training contributed to:
• Strengthening young people’s confidence, communication, and decision-making skills
• Increasing awareness of harmful practices and the social norms that sustain them
• Equipping youth to become peer educators, mentors, and positive role models
• Creating a stronger foundation for youth-led action and positive social and behavioral change
When young people have the knowledge, confidence, and voice to make informed choices, they can become powerful agents of change in their families and communities.

Together, we can protect her future, strengthen her voice, and work toward a future free from FGM and child, early and forced marriage.

Empowering young people to become Champions of Change in Afar
As part of the Future4Binti Programme — an initiative to protect and empower girls and young women by preventing harmful practices and advancing gender equality — alignAfrica launched Structured Champions of Change (CoC) training on 6–7 July 2026 in Ayirolaf Kebele (Dubti Woreda) and Korodora Kebele (Asayita Woreda), Afar Region.
140 young people took part, including 70 girls. Reflecting our commitment to inclusion, 4 persons with disabilities (including 2 girls) joined the sessions. In the first CoC modules, 114 participants (59 girls) actively engaged.
Using participatory, interactive methods, the opening module strengthened life skills, self-confidence, empathy, and positive communication.

These sessions created a safe space for young people to reflect, learn, and grow into Champions of Change — youth leaders who promote gender equality, challenge harmful norms, and help build safer, more inclusive communities.
alignAfrica is proud to implement Future4Binti in Afar alongside partners: empowering girls, engaging boys as allies, and supporting communities to end harmful practices and create lasting change.

🧵 International Youth Day 2026 | August 12

We joined young people and partners in Assosa, Benishangul-Gumuz, Ethiopia to celebrate under the theme:

“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

🌍 Youth from diverse communities share one vision: dignity, opportunity, inclusion, and peace.

The event brought together government institutions, civil society, development partners, and youth-led organizations including BG Women & Social Affairs Bureau, Plan International, Ethiopian Red Cross Society, and alignAfrica.

💬 Key discussions focused on strengthening dialogue, critical thinking, and media literacy—while addressing misinformation and hate speech, and promoting inclusive youth participation in civic life.

At alignAfrica, we believe solutions for young people must be shaped with them, not for them.

We remain committed to supporting youth in building skills, accessing livelihoods, strengthening leadership, and engaging in digital and decision-making spaces.

✨ This IYD, we celebrate the creativity, resilience, and leadership of young people across Benishangul-Gumuz, Ethiopia.
